Variations On Black And Gray

6:54

No Explanation Needed

It's 6:30 as I start this, the house is dark, and everyone is still sleeping.  I can just make out the opposite shore, shades of darkness.  It's 56º out, warming up compared to yesterday's 40's.  It's now 8:40 and I just returned from a paddle on a smooth, gray liquid, easy kayaking down to the Powerboat Club and back.

Kayaking On A Gray Morning

Woodlawn/Victoria

Yesterday morning went quickly, perhaps because I did not do much, just spent it hanging around, too lazy to bike, practice yoga.  Finally, because Tyler, who had been working upstairs, wanted to go for a run at the Chautauqua Institution, Evie and I decided to walk the grounds while he ran.  We parked in the visitor's area, then walked for fifty minutes while Tyler circled the grounds twice, plus some, getting up to seven miles.  It makes me tired thinking about seven miles.  That was it for the day as far as exercise was concerned.

Tyler Finishing His Run At Bestor Plaza

We were home late, about 1:00 and I heated up the leftover koftes and pita bread for lunch, yum.  I watched some basketball I had saved from the night before.  While Tyler continued to work on line upstairs,  Evie decided to enjoy the dock, the sun, even though it was cool.  She came in as I was finishing lunch, soaking wet because her iPhone had fallen in the lake, a major disaster because she depends on her phone.  She was actually lucky to find it in the muddy, weedy, five feet of water,  It worked for a few hours then would not open so it spent the night in rice and we are hoping that makes a difference.  If not, we will be giving our son Tom a call because we have our phones through his contract with TMobile.  Needless to say, that ruined much of the afternoon for Evie although her phone did work until 6:00. p.m.

I just heard the phone beep as I write this so maybe it's waking up.  I pulled it out of the rice and voila, it was working so I attached it to the chargers.  Evie is going to be ecstatic when she wakes.

Tyler had a conference call with 30 of his fellow employees at 4:00 but because many of them were on vacation, he was done by 4:30 so we got ready for a boat cruise despite the cool afternoon. Tyler's company is one of the major chip makers for 5G infrastructure.  He spends his day coding (and meetings, to his dismay), his computer screen filled with numbers, codes he creates then tests to see if it works. It makes me feel so fortunate to have spent forty-five years teaching students, not looking at numbers on a computer screen. After the phone call, we cruised over to Bemus, along the shore and back, having to stop numerous times to put the motor in reverse because of the weeds.  They are really bad in some areas.

For dinner, we were having another Tyler favorite from his summers at the lake, barbecued chicken, corn on the cob, salad,  and noodles cooked in chicken broth.  While Evie made the salad, brussel sprouts and cooked the noodles, Tyler and I grilled the chicken, basting it with Sweet Baby Ray's sauce.  We stuffed ourselves with chicken, salad, and noodles so that it was difficult to get up from the table.  As usual, Tyler made an extra bowl of salad to enjoy later in the evening as a snack while I had a peach crisp with ice cream, my healthy food,  All three of us pitched in with the dishes, putting away the extra food, washing and drying so that we could get to the TV room.  We watched part of the current Colbert but were soon bored with his interview with Bob Woodward and moved on to our series, Messiah, and watched the last two episodes before bed.
