It's 8:30 and the gang is just beginning to stir, most likely Evie.  I was up at 6:00, kayaked for close to an hour on a surprisingly choppy, windy lake.  I actually struggled to head north, on my way home. It's 56º and the high will only be in the 60s' and not get much warmer as the week progresses. Great hiking and biking weather.

Kayak Morning

In The Green

Yesterday morning was gray and wet but by early afternoon, the sky started to clear and it became a pleasant afternoon.  My morning paddle was in the rain but it soon stopped, just staying overcast until the afternoon.  We sat around reading the paper, listening to the news, having breakfast waiting for our grandson Tyler to wake up.  Finally, at 10:30, he made it downstairs and I had already been up for five-plus hours and was beginning to get tired. He made himself a smoothie and we took it easy, making up our menus for the week, the shopping list for today.  We had a debate as to when we were going to have breakfast, before or after Tyler's run.  We compromised and while Evie made our breakfast, a Turkish omelet or menemen, Tyler and I went for a paddle over to Long Point, back to the reeds and home, working up an appetite.

Kayaking With My Grandson, Tyler

Breakfast hit the spot to use a cliche and Tyler loved it, especially the Turkish spices, Urfa, Maras and Aleppo.  We then decided, or rather I decided, that Tyler would go for a run while I took a nap and after my nap, midafternoon, we would drive to the Chautauqua Institution and get in a walk.  So that's what we did; I napped, Tyler returned from his run, I got up, and off we went.  We were able to get Tyler a season pass for the CI so he can run the grounds anytime he wants.  We walked for about forty-five minutes, about a mile and a half, looking at homes and gardens, showing Tyler our favorites.  We ended up at Bestor Plaza and it was fun to run into Virginia, a long time blog reader and also our next-door neighbors, Joyce and Kathy, out for a walk like us.

At The Chautauqua Institution

On our way home, we stopped at the Lighthouse to pick up some peameal bacon, another Tyler favorite then corn from the cart at Mayville park before driving home.  It was wine time when we got home and also dinner prepping time.  Tyler and Evie set about getting our scallop dinner ready, with a lemon/wine sauce, a salad with fresh corn, and two kinds of noodles, the usual for us, healthy chickpea noodles for Tyler.  He's a great sous chef so Evie loves having him here and I am the pan and bottle washer, cleaning up after both or their messes.  Dinner was great, of course, and Tyler not only loved but learned how to make scallops, another dinner to add to his repertoire.

We didn't finish up the dishes, me washing, Tyler drying until 7:30 and because Tyler started a new series, American Crime, which both Evie and I watched a couple of years ago, we decided to stick with it and watched a couple of riveting episodes, so timely because it deals with a black man falsely accused of murder.  It's one of our favorites.  Tyler and Evie enjoyed watermelon and peanut butter M & M's for a snack, and Tyler finished up the leftover salad around 9:30, still a bit hungry,  By 10:15, both Evie and I were tired and left Tyler to fend for himself.
