Tyler's Here

Back To The Lake

6:46

It's 8:40 and all three of us are up.  I got in a good hour paddle on a 48º degree morning, whispers of winter in September.  I ran into Tina and Jim, photographed a couple of herons, and did not see anything else of interest.

Yesterday was a day of waiting for our grandson Tyler to arrive from Boston. He's been working in his apartment since March, going stir crazy, so he's going to spend a week or two, working from our home, enjoying the lake and the cool weather.  Most of the day, however, was the usual, paddling, writing my blog, and breakfast before we started getting things ready for Tyler.  We washed the sheets and set up his bedroom as was a workspace so he would be comfortable. Once we were done with that, it was back to normal.  I heated up lunch, the leftover soup, and watched some more basketball.

Since I was up so early, I napped upstairs, falling asleep easily while reading my book.  Evie wanted some exercise so she fired up the lawnmower and gave our lawn a trimming so that it looked nice for Tyler's arrival like he cared.  It cleared up just after 1:00 and we both tried to sit out on the dock but the wind and cool temperatures sent us back to the side yard. While Evie put together dinner, chicken thighs, artichoke and mushrooms, I changed the oil and sparkplugs in the mower, getting it ready for leaf season, and worked on weeding our brick walk.

Tyler arrived around 6:00 from Boston, making good time, including a stop by the police and given only a warning for speeding, expired registration, and passing in the right lane.  That's our Tyler.  He was hungry after 8 hours in the car, so we sat briefly on the front porch until the corn and salad were ready and sat down to a great meal.  Tyler ate like he had not eaten in days although he is a good, healthy cook. We knew we would have trouble deciding on what movie or series to watch because we each have our prejudice.  We ended up watching a series on Netflix called Messiah. We watched two episodes and so far, we are enjoying it
