Summer''s Over

6:45

7:32

8:22

It's 7:07, a partly cloudy morning and we are well on our way to autumn, at least that's the way it feels after celebrating Labor Day. The weather, however, is still summer, with temperatures the next couple of days in the mid-80s. It's 8:45 and I was out for a short, 35-minute paddle, on an empty lake, no boats, no waves, just hundreds of seagulls, white rags on blue waters. It was a glorious morning, just paddling to some tunes on iTunes. What a difference between the weekend and today, as if summer abruptly ended.

A Quiet Lake

Yesterday was a busy day, as always, when we had friends over for dinner. I will give a quick summary of our day. I cleaned both porches and helped in the kitchen, mainly cleaning up after Evie. She made a peach and cream cheese galette for dessert, a tomato sauce for koftes, beer cheese for appetizers, and shaped koftes for dinner. In between, we were able to relax and enjoy the afternoon although it was hot, even in our house. I was so uncomfortable during the day that I swam three different times during the day to cool down and get my mojo back. Lunch, by the way, was the leftover rigatoni and I finished my show, Jack Ryan. Yea

Linda and Ron arrived at 5:30 and we quickly jumped in the boat and cruised down the lake to Prendergast and back, on a breezy, choppy lake and it was deliciously cool and we loved it. We had beers and peanuts as we cruised. When we returned, Evie warmed up the beer cheese and I put the cover on the boat because of Lake Flies and took my third dip of the day to cool off. We then enjoyed a glass of wine on our porch along with pretzels and beer cheese until it started to get dark and we had to debate whether to eat inside out. Around 8:00, Ron and I grilled the lamb koftes and Evie heated up the tomato sauce, pita bread and made a salad. Dinner was a favorite Turkish dinner, Iskender Kebab, basically pita bread, topped with lamb koftes, tomato sauce, and yogurt. Yum. With a salad and corn, we had a great dinner. We ended the night with Evie's peach galette. Linda and Ron headed home around 9:30 and Evie went up to bed, tired from the day but I stayed up for a bit and did most of the dishes, a good boy.
