A Hazy Morning

6:41

It's 7:30 and I have yet to kayak, deciding to go to breakfast first, then get in a paddle when I return at 9:00. At the moment, the lake is quiet, the sky overcast with haze, on a 62º morning. Well, it's later than usual, 10:10 because I went to breakfast, then kayaked for a half hour, as it's beginning to warm up.

Kayak Morning

Yesterday was a different day for me. I did get in a good paddle, however, returned home and after the blog and breakfast, helped Evie around the house rather than going to yoga. We got quite a bit accomplished and by 11:30, two friends, both in their 80s, drove in from Cleveland for lunch and just getting together. The three of us, along with their high school buddy, Stan, who lives here, played basketball in college, during the summers, and later, were successful basketball coaches in the Cleveland area. We get together a couple times a year, either meeting in Erie for breakfast or here at the lake in the summer. It's a good time, lots of memories, like who was the best player you coached, or played against. We had lunch at the Ashville Country Store a busy place but the guys loved it, so different from your usual luncheon place. They headed back home around 1:30 and vowed to meet in Erie in October before Stan heads south to Florida.

The 80+ Club

Just as the guys were leaving, our neighbor's grandsons came over to 'play with Evie.' Evie loves it of course, had snacks ready for the boys and she brought some action figures from the toy chest in the attic -- a GI Joe and Navy frogman -- toys that our grandsons played with 25 years ago.  She also introduced them to the Tintin books, which our kids and grandkids loved.

Evie And The Boys

While I napped, they played, not leaving until 4:00. They are cute kids. Once they left, Evie parboiled some chicken thighs and we then relaxed on the front porch with a glass of vino until 6:00 when I fired up the grill and barbecued the chicken thighs. While I was grilling the chicken, Evie was cooking noodles in the chicken broth, our favorite.  Along with a salad, we had a feast of barbecued chicken, noodles drowned in chicken broth, and salad. We watched another episode of ER, then returned to a series we started last week called Hijack and watched another episode before tiring and getting ready to read and go to bed.
