58 Years

Cruising In The Afternoon

7:43

A bit of haze this morning on a calm and quiet lake. It's warming up some, 67º when I got up at 7:20, later than usual. It's later than usual, 9:50 as I finish this after an hour's paddle. I seem to photograph the same ospreys and herons each morning. They, obviously, are like me and like routine.

Sunday was warmer than we expected, with highs in the 80s but a good day to enjoy being outdoors. I had an hour on the lake, then returned to relax with Evie for a bit before heading off to Wegmans to do some last-minute shopping because we were having friends over for dinner. I am always amazed at how busy Wegmans is on Sundays, perhaps the busiest day of the week. When I got home, Evie had been busy prepping a few things for our dinner, then made a couple of eggs on toast for breakfast.

The only thing I did the rest of the afternoon was gas up my boat and scrub some of the seats and vacuum it since we have not used it much this summer. It was too hot to stay outside but I tried reading on the dock and eventually just jumped in the lake to cool off. I had forgotten how wonderful, how energizing, a lake swim can be.

Anniversary Dinner

Linda and Ron arrived at 5:00 and Evie had beers and appetizers packed, so we jumped in the boat and cruised beyond the bridge and back along Bemus Bay, one of many boats that had similar ideas. The Casino and The Fish were both packed with boaters so it was a busy Sunday on the lake. When we returned home, we sat on the porch, enjoying an Asian shrimp cocktail and a glass of wine. We then decided to have dinner inside, worried about the bees in the yard. Evie served a moussaka, along with a great salad and sourdough bread. For dessert, we had carrot cake from Wegmans, a sweet ending to our meal. We celebrated our 58th anniversary, today, and Ron and Linda's 22nd this past Friday. It was a good day.
