A Morning In Virginia

The Girls

6:24 and 50º

It's 7:30 and I have been up since 6:00, joined by my son-in-law Drew at 6:30. We either talk sports or his work and the various government contracts his company has won or is trying to win, things like sending 20,000 armored vests to Ukraine. Someone has to procure them, then send them and that's one of the things his company does. It's a world entirely new to me. It's sunny out here in Bristow, VA, 50º but will be in the 80s by the time Halle's graduation party begins at 3:00.

Ready to Party!!!

We left the lake around 8:15, arriving in Bristow by 3:30, our typical seven-hour drive. We were surprised by the traffic on all of the roads, especially the number of trucks. It was a Friday, however, and a busy time of the year. We had a couple of stops to eat and we always stop at the Shenandoah Market where I get gas, at $3:15 a  gallon compared to $3:69 in New York and Pennsylvania.

The girls and Drew were home but Jill was still working. We had not seen them in a couple of weeks because we were all in Morgantown for Hayden's graduation. It felt good to finally be out of the car and relax although the gang was organizing some things for today's party, making sure everything was ready. We decided on sushi for dinner so Drew and I picked it up Gateway, a shopping area that has just about anything to eat or buy. We sat out on their porch and enjoyed our sushi, talking mostly about Hayden's new job as an intern at a company that Drew worked at and will be returning to in a couple of weeks. She seems excited about in job which is cool. We then cleaned up some and we were ready to watch the NBA game at 8:30.

Porch Among The Trees

Evie was really tired and went up to bed early, just as the basketball game was starting. We were sitting around their great outdoor screened-in porch watching the game when Drew went out into the garage to the refrigerator to get a beer. Earlier, they had made a huge pitcher of Sangria and put it in the refrigerator to get cold overnight. When Halle walked out to the garage and opened the fridge, the baskets and shelves were filled with the Sangria which somehow had spilled. So instead of watching the game, Drew pulled out the shelves and all the cans and bottled drinks and I washed them and the shelves as he worked on cleaning the refrigerator. Once we were done, the evening ended with the two of us enjoying a libation and watching the second half of the Nugget's win over the Heat.
