Winter Kayaking

7:29

9:26

It's 7:00 today, 6:00 if it was yesterday and I was up an hour ago. It's a chilly 19º this morning, the yard still snow-covered from Friday's heavy snowfall. It's not supposed to snow today but we may get some on Monday and Tuesday. It's 9:44 as I finish this and happily was able to paddle for close to an hour. The wind seemed to die as I got out on the lake and I was able to paddle down to Wells Bay and back along Woodlawn. I even was able to shoot a couple of wood ducks, the first of the year. Evie's still sleeping, lucky gal.

Yesterday was a typical Chautauqua winter day, finally, although it did not snow but we had enough from Friday to make it like a winter wonderland. I didn't get in a paddle because of the wind but still, it was a pleasant morning, no hurry. Finally, by 10:00, the driveway was shoveled and the cars were cleaned off so I could head to the Transfer Station with our trash. When I returned, Evie was about ready to for a walk. We tried Webbs Trail but it was too difficult to get to it so we opted for a walk around Chautauqua Institution, a good choice. It was like walking around a Christmas postcard, with the trees and bushes frosted with snow. We walked for an hour and were the only ones out enjoying the late morning.

We were home by 12:30 and Evie heated up the last of the soup and since we stopped at the Lighthouse Grocery, I had a sub sandwich. Much of the afternoon, then, was taken up with watching some college basketball on and off, then reading some, and napping. Evie was busy in the kitchen, however, putting together eggplant meatballs and making a delicious homemade tomato sauce for our dinner.

Once dinner was more or less prepped, we relaxed in the TV room and watched an ER before our wine time in the living room, as the wind finally calmed down some. Dinner was great, the eggplant meatballs and tomato sauce along with brioche rolls and a salad. We still had trouble watching a film on cable as it continue to cut out, not sure why. We ended up watching a film from 2004 called Vera Drake, about a woman who 'helps out young girls' in 1950's Great Britain. Imelda Stanton is wonderful as Vera and most recently played Queen Elizabeth II on TV. We finished the night with Colbert.
