It's 7:00 and I have been up for an hour, to a morning sun that has just disappeared behind a cloud cover. It was 64º when I woke and will get into the mid-80s later in the day. I opened quite a few windows, hoping to cool down the house and will close them as it gets warmer outside. It's 9:15 as I finish this up after a 70-minute paddle. Paddling north to Magnolia was fine but coming back in the wind and waves was arduous and no fun.

Yesterday was another stellar day, with mostly blue skies and lots of sun and heat. We had a couple of projects in mind, neither time-consuming nor difficult. So after a good paddle, a relaxing coffee and breakfast, we got busy, organizing the attic and putting four air conditioners in the bedroom windows and one in the TV room, as we are getting ready for the heat wave all the media outlets have been talking about this past few days. My weather app begins with a SEVERE WEATHER ALERT and it's basically an air quality alert. I guess we are not supposed to breathe.
Once we were done with the air conditioners and attic, we decided to drive to Lakewood, to Mike's Nursery and buy some annuals to fill up a couple of large pots. We bought wave petunias in two different colors which was a good choice. And since we were in Lakewood, Evie suggested we stop at Kentucky Fried Chicken and pick up our dinner since it was Father's Day and she loved their crispy chicken. It was surprisingly busy on a late Sunday morning, a healthy choice after church no doubt.
When we returned home, I had lunch, compliments of our neighbor Pat, a kugel, with potatoes and cream and I watched another episode of The Veil. By 1:00, the temperature was in the 80's, so both of us took time out to relax, either in the yard on a chaise lounge or on the porch, with the fan on to keep cool. Late afternoon, Evie planted the petunias in the pots and watered the garden again and I filled the wheelbarrow with compost for her plants. We were both looking forward to happy hour. Evie made loaded Doritos with cheese and salsa to go along with our drinks. It was pleasant on the front porch despite the 80º weather, and the fan helped. Dinner was KFC, not as good as we hoped but none was left. We watched CBS Sunday morning, then an episode of Catastrophe before going to bed.
