Some Sun, Mostly Vast Cloud Banks

7:04

7:05

It's 8:40 and we are both sitting in our living room, the sun hidden behind the clouds. I was up at 6:00, ready to kayak for an hour at 7:00, and am here, writing my blog.

Kayak Morning

Same Old Heron

Yesterday was a different Sunday although I  did start the day as usual, with a paddle, blog, and breakfast. Evie was feeling better but decided to take it easy since it was Sunday, no walks in the CI, no mowing of the lawn, or working in the garden.  After a leisurely morning, I decided to get in a bike ride since it was such a beautiful morning, with cool temperatures and sunny. So I drove over to Bemus, parked my car, and took my usual bike ride, down Lakeside Drive, through the park to Long Point and back. It's a little over nine miles and took me an hour. As always, a met few people in the park, more on the path out to Long Point.

Black Locust Trail

I was home by noon and by 12:30, Evie had the bacon sizzling when our doorbell rang. Our neighbor's granddaughters, Claire and Frankie, came over to say hi and, of course, look through the treasure chest, something they have been doing for many summers as they visited their grandfather, Ken. Evie was happy,  put the breakfast on hold, and sat with the girls as they worked their way through the treasure box, picking out a treasure to take home. They are so cute and polite and both made us nostalgic for the days when our grandchildren were that young.

Claire And Frankie

Around 1:15, we enjoyed our breakfast, eggs, bacon, and a bagel on the front porch since it was so pleasant outside. Once we were finished, I cleaned up the kitchen, then read some and napped. While I was napping, Evie put together a peach crisp with a pecan topping for our dessert. And that was it for both of us for the rest of the afternoon. I read and finally finished my book. Evie relaxed on the porch, occasionally napping or reading. By 5:30, we were enjoying a glass of wine on the porch, with pretzels and dip, watching the lake slowly empty of weekenders.

Dinner was fried rice, with pork, garlic, tomatoes, mushrooms, broccoli, and lots of soy, hot sauce and salt. It was just what we wanted, something tasty and different from our usual fare. We watched another tough and depressing movie, We Need To Talk About Kevin. Tilda Swinton was amazing as the mother of a troubled son. We ended the night with Seaside Hotel, as the Nazis are making their presence felt at this wonderful hotel.
