The Heat Returns

Dahlia Daze

6:29

8:09

It's quiet, what else at 6:40, the sun already beating down on the roof, filling our living room with its brightness. The lake is shimmering on a 67º morning and it will get up into the 80s later in the day. It's 8:14, both Evie and Beth are up and I just returned from an easy 50-minute paddle on the lake.  We are off to yoga at 9:00, so that's why everyone is up early.

Kayak Morning

Same Heron, Same Tree, Same Time

Yesterday was overcast much of the day although we received most of the inch and a half of rain overnight. I did get in a paddle in between rain on a very gray, misty morning. Most of the morning was spent watching the tree guy climb and gradually delimb the trees before taking them down in one thunderous fall. He is amazingly adept at climbing, tying a rope onto a limb before cutting and letting it fall without damaging anything. They took down four huge ash trees in our neighbor's yard and one small ash next to my garage.

lt was not a boating or sunbathing kind of day because of the drizzle until late afternoon so Beth and Marisa left to work out at Planet Fitness around 11:30, then did the shopping at Wegmans, not returning until 2:30. Evie, meanwhile, was still doing laundry from the past week, mostly sheets and towels, so that kept her busy. I made a pot of kuru fasulye, a favorite of both Marisa and Beth. It's basically white beans, with onions, garlic, Turkish pepper, and tomato paste, definitely a peasant dish because it's served over rice. For lunch, I had a turkey wrap with veggies and watched the first episode of Peaky Blinders, Season Four. When Beth returned home, she made some sunflower peanut butter cookies, a bit sweeter than the peanut butter cookies she made the day before.

Ready For Dinner

Around 5:00, we sat on the front porch with a glass of wine as the sky had cleared, the rain stopped and we could enjoy the outdoors some.  Dinner was fresh corn on the cob, Slovenian sausages, salad, and the kuru falsuye over rice. We were able to eat outside at 7:00 which was great as the evening had cooled off some making it comfortable to sit outside. Beth and I did up the dishes then we relaxed in the living room reading or on our devices until 8:15 when we watched another episode and a half of Inventing Anna on Netflix.
