A Quiet Place

6:17

8:37

It is 6:30 and just stopped raining and I woke to thunder and rain at 6:00, a surprise. All's quiet on the lake, no boats, no seagulls, no herons or osprey yet. The strangest thing happened as it was raining. The sun actually rose briefly, fitting in between the horizon and a cloud bank, briefly shining on the lake. I paddled for 70 minutes, as the lake, the fishing boats, gradually woke up on one fine morning.

Kayak Morning

My Guy

Yesterday marked the end of two weeks of the family as Marisa and Beth flew back to Dallas, late afternoon, leaving us 'home alone,' once again, to a strangely quiet house. Thursday began, however, like most days, as I paddled for an hour, had breakfast in Bemus, then went to a Yin Yoga class in Lakewood before returning home by 11:30. The girls were packed when I returned and relaxing in the yard or porch. Marisa had also finished another friendship bracelet for me and one for Evie, bracelets she started making four or five years ago but took up again this past summer. They are really cool. especially Evie's with alternating flowers.

I had my usual afternoon, my daughter Beth's leftover pasta with squash and sausage for lunch, watched my show, briefly napped, and at 2:30, the four of us left for the airport, Sadly, we bid them aloha at 4:00 and headed home, stopping in Hanover for gas at a Seneca Nation gas station ($3.87 a gallon) and picking up some gummies from a crowded dispensary, Yep, gummies are now legal in New York.

Homeward Bound

We did not get home until 6:00 and decided to relax on our front porch with a libation and watch the sky slowly darken. It seemed strange to be out there, just the two of us, something we hadn't done for a couple of weeks. Dinner was delicious and easy, just microwave the leftover lamb chops and rice, make a salad and we were happy. We watched some of the 1/6 hearings and Jeopardy before going up to bed early, tired from the day.
