Another Full Day

5:45

It's 5:45 and I am up way too early, the sky overcast and gray, a 64º morning. It should be another fine lake day, high in the 70s. It's now 9:30, and the living room is full, as all but three girlies are up. I kayaked for an hour and twenty minutes, down to Snug Harbor and back. When I returned, my grandson Nick was up so we went for a refreshing early morning swim, waking us both up for the day.

Sun's Up

Yesterday was surprisingly windy, and cool at times when the sun hid behind the clouds, so we did not get in much boating or swimming, mostly just hanging out. I got in my paddle before most were up on a sunny morning. Since we had no plans, we had a long coffee and breakfast hour. Once the girls were up, they requested buttermilk pancakes so Evie's always willing to honor their request. We did not get moving until 11:00 when two cars went off to work out at the Planet Fitness gym in Lakewood. The rest of us helped to get the kitchen cleaned up, and did some sunbathing in the yard and dock, except for my son-in-law, Drew, who went for a bike ride to Dobbins Woods and back.

I had a couple of squares of baked ziti for lunch around noon and got a distress text from Beth saying traffic, because of construction, was unbelievably slow and we ought to make sure to get everything so we can avoid going back to the store on Wednesday. Beth's car shopped at Wegman's after working out and did not back until 2:30 or 3:00, unbelievable...three hours to work out and shop. They bought hoagies at Wegman's so everyone feasted on them or the leftover ziti and shells. And because of the wind, most either sunned, napped, or read in the yard or on the porch, out of the wind. Even Evie napped a rarity.

Around 5:00, all of us went out in the late afternoon sun and played a bean bag tournament, with Nick and Marlena beating my son Tom and me for the championship. Marlena clinched the victory with three ringers.

Then Beth started grilling veggies at 6:00, red onions, bell peppers, and zucchini. Once she was done, Tyler, Tom, and I grilled lamb/beef koftes for another one of our favorite dinners, Iskender kebab, koftes on pita, bread, and topped with Evie's tomato sauce and yogurt to finish the dish. Along with the roasted veggies, dinner was delish.

Once dinner was done and the gang cleaned up the kitchen, we moved to the yard to play Spud, a childhood game we used to play when the grandchildren were young. We had a riot playing it as adults, screaming and yelling, as we tried to catch the ball if our number was called, then taking three steps and throwing the ball at a person to avoid a letter. I was first to get four letters or spud.

We ended the night with most of the grandchildren watching a movie in the TV room, and the adults sitting around talking in the living room. Around 9:30, we had brownie bites, ice cream, and hot fudge sauce for dessert. Most of us old folks went to bed just after 10:00 and we have no idea what time the rest went to bed.
