Not The Best Of Days

My Favorite Dahlia

5:45

It's just 6:00 and I have been up since 5:30, the only one up this early of course. It's 70º already but should stay in the 70s unlike yesterday's high of 88º. It's a sad day, however, as Beth and Marisa leave for home this afternoon and we will return to empty nesters for at least a year. It's 9:12 and I already kayaked for forty minutes and enjoyed breakfast with the guys at the newly renovated Bemus Point Inn and soon will be on my way to yoga. O, yea, we also got a half inch of rain overnight so Evie's garden is happy.

Kayak Morning

Yesterday was not such a good day, mainly because we took decided to do something different. So after kayaking and breakfast, we gathered towels, water bottles, bathing suits, etc, hooked my bike on to the car and drove off to Presque Isle State Park, a ten-mile-long peninsula just off of Erie, with some of the best inland beaches in the United States. Unfortunately, we had forgotten we don't much like beaching it anymore, too hot, sweaty and boring.  And to top it off, the beach was crowded and the temperatures were close to 90º, not exactly our kind of weather. Anyways, we rented a bike for Marisa and while Evie and Beth went to the beach, we took an hour ride around the park. I made a wrong turn so we rode a good part of the way in the sun and when returning on the shady side, we biked into the wind.

Biking To Oliver Hazzard Perry Monument

It was not a pleasurable ride, nor was sitting on the beach much better. When we finished riding, we joined the girls at the beach and Evie and I went for a swim to cool off. Once we dried off, we decided we had enough and would go to Sara's for lunch. Unfortunately, it was crowded and we would have to sit outside in the sun so we bagged it and just went home, arriving around 2:15.

We had a quick lunch of a wrap with hummus, cucumber and tomatoes, then adjourned to couches or into the yard to read or nap, or try to keep cool, forgetting about our morning hour drive to Lake Erie, hour drive back. For the rest of the afternoon, we were too pooped to do anything meaningful fortunately Beth still had some mojo and she made us a new recipe, pasta with sausage, pureed squash, spinach, onions, and garlic but not tomato sauce. We ate it inside because it was still too warm to eat outside and we loved it and will make it again.

Lots Of Campy Rings

More Rings

After dinner, we hung out in the living room, and Marisa went through the Treasure Chest before ending the night watching a few James Carden's car karaoke with Lizzo and Lady Gaga. We ended up going to bed by 10:00, tired from our beach day.
