Kayak Morning

It's crazy quiet and the rest of the gang, all fourteen of them are still sleeping. It's overcast at the moment and we received a half-inch of rain overnight, waking me briefly. It should be another fine day, a bit cooler than yesterday with highs in the mid-70s. It's after 10:00 as we finish the blog and I did get in an hour on the lake. Once again, I apologize for all the photos. I guess we just like seeing photos of ourselves.

Yesterday began as usual for me, kayaking, writing the blog, and breakfast. The troops slowly woke, the girls last of course. Not much happens early, as everyone enjoys their coffee and their devices.  By 8:00, however, Nick and Dray were at their computers, working from the lake for much of the day, alas. Both Tommy and Drew, also did some work online as did Jill. I feel fortunate to be retired. Around 10:30, a group went for a walk along Lakeside Drive in Bemus, just about three miles. While they were gone, some worked, some relaxed but Marisa and Nick did a HIIT worked out in the yard.

By noon, I was the first one to have lunch, a square of baked ziti, heated up in the microwave. By 2:00, everyone was back, finished the ziti and stuffed shells, or made sandwiches.  The rest of the afternoon until 5:00 was spent sunbathing or swimming on the dock, an 83ยบ afternoon.

Monday was also photo day, a yearly routine. Evie bought the girls matching dresses from Old Navy, a big deal when they were younger. Now, not so much but they wore them for a photo shoot, then changed for the family photo. We were fortunate to have our next-door neighbor Chris around to take the family photo. Usually, the photo shoot is a hassle but it went smoothly this year and we were off in the car or boat by 6:15, to Bemus for wings at the Village Casino, our 41st year.

Nick, The Crooner

It was Karaoke night, so while we were enjoying our wings and beers, we were serenaded by locals as well as Nick, who took my twenty buck challenge on, got up on stage, and sang. It was a riot as he exuded confidence but no singing voice to rave about. We then walked down to the Lenhart Hotel, and sat on their rockers with a drink, while the grandkids got ice cream cones. It was a beautiful night to sit on the porch as well as cruise home in the boat, the sun setting behind a vast cloud bank.

We formed a circle in the front yard and sat around talking and laughing about nonsense until 10:00 when most of us went to bed, and others watched TV. It was a fun and easy day because we did not have to worry about cooking.
