A Triple Header

6:59

Well, it's 7:50 and I waited too long to get out on the lake because it has just started to rain although I woke to the sun rising over Long Point.  It does not look like it will last very long so I will probably be able to get in a paddle.

Saturday was a good day, with lots of fun things to do.  Of course, after breakfast, because we were expecting company at 2:00, I vacuumed the living room and Evie made a tuna macaroni salad in case they wanted lunch.  I then took the trash to the Transfer Station, came home, and because Evie was out mowing both our yard,  I decided to get in a bike ride.  I drove to Ron and Linda's, parked my car, and rode for an hour, to Mayville, down Sea Lion Drive and beyond before returning the same way.  It's a nice ride except for maybe a mile on #394 which is always busy with traffic.

Evie was just finishing the lawn when I returned home.  I made myself a salami sandwich and watched some of the Olympics, read, then waited for our friends, Mike and Barb, and their two sons to arrive.  They are our good friends from Hudson and we have known them since the early 1980s, watched their sons grow up, etc. We had not seen them in a couple of years, the boys even longer, so it was great to sit on the front porch for a couple of hours and catch up on all their lives. The oldest, Ian, I getting married next August so that's exciting.

Hudson Friends

They left for Buffalo around 4:00 and we then relaxed and decided it was a good time to go bar hopping, the first time in a couple of years.  Evie covets the hand-cut french fries from Steeners so that was our first stop.  We sat at the bar, munching on a basket of fries, enjoying a beer, and talking with the owner, Bill Steener.  It was a busy place but the bar was quiet.  After the fries, we decided to have dinner at the Green Door but stopped at our friends,  Barb and Dana's house on the way since we had not seen them in close to two years. They were working in their yard, but just finished so we ended up having beers around their pool, overlooking the lake.  Their house and six acres have been in Dana's family for over a hundred years, six acres of woods, a lakefront lot, a spectacular view.  They are well and it was fun to stop for a beer.

Around 8:00 we drove to the Green Door, got the last two seats at the bar, ordered beers, wings, and burgers and were happy,  It was a raucous crowd, singing old tunes, talking loud, ordering tequila shots, having a good time,  We felt right at home.  We did not get home until 9:45, in time to watch some Olympics before bed, exhausted from our tripleheader.

Today, Sunday, we are planning on going to the annual Gowanda Slovenia Club picnic in the afternoon, weather permitting.  We have gone two or three other years and enjoyed the ethnic food and the polka band. Evie had been a remember since 2017 when we happened upon their lodge before going hiking in Zoar Valley.  It's an hour and a half away so we don't get there much.
