Thunder In The Morning

Kathy, Friend And Neighbor, On A Kayak Morning

Well, I was up around 6:15, to rolling thunder and rain, a surprise.  I decided to sit on the front porch while it rained, the sun hidden by the clouds.  It's still hot and humid, the rain not helping.  The rain stopped by 6:45 and I was out on the lake by 7:15, a good morning for birding.

A Noble Heron

Yesterday was in the low 80s', not quite as warm as Monday but we also got some unexpected rain.  I kayaked as usual and was on my way to yoga by 9:10. They were eight of us in class and I was the only one wearing a mask although Julie, our teacher, wishes we might do something about requiring either vaccination or mask-wearing. The Delta virus is scarier than earlier strains because it's so easily passed and even seems to affect those who have been vaccinated. I did not linger after class and came straight home, did a few things in the yard, and took a swim to cool off.

Yellow Squash And Potato Torte

While I was gone, Evie was busy making a Torte with sliced yellow squash (from our friend Dick's garden), red potatoes, scallions, parmesan cheese and thyme. It was for dinner but it smelled so good I had to taste it.  Yum. Lunch was easy, just heat up the leftover Cubans and Ruebens from the Viking Club.  Evie left around 1:15, for an appointment with Jaret, her hairdresser, then a major shopping at Wegman's.  Meanwhile, I had lunch, watched another episode of Netflix's Hit and Rum, then read and napped, waking to find out the power was out.  It was no big deal because I just read on my Kindle on the porch until Evie arrived home, around 4;00, the same time the power returned.

An Abundance Of Coneflowers

She was late because there were a couple of detours because of what seemed to be major accidents.  I cleaned the weeds off the dock, then relaxed for the next hour as Evie was on a Zoom call with her sisters. Dinner was baked cod topped with cracker crumbs, lemon juice, and vermouth.  We watched a film on Prime called Uncle Frank, set in the 1970s. Uncle Frank is a closet gay man and he develops a relationship with his 18-year-old niece who helps him to come out to his family. It's bit tired and trite except for the last 15 minutes that seemed to ring true. We ended the night with a couple more episodes of Jeopardy. Matt, the champion for the past couple of weeks, dominates the board so effectively that his opponents have little chance to win any money.  He's a Ph.D. student, grew up in Medina, Ohio, and gave a shout out to his public school system and its teachers.
