Summer Wanes

Our New Piggy Bank

A New Vase

It's 8:55 and we are both.  I just returned from the blog and Evie was out talking with our neighbors.  It's another cool morning, good sleeping as well, a 55º when I got up at 6:20. I kayaked for forty-five minutes on an uninspired morning, with little to see other than a heron caught in flight.

Heron In Flight

Sunday was a fun day as we had absolutely nothing on our plate. Early morning was typical. a kayak padded for me, a late-rising for Evie. After breakfast and the blog, Evie suggested we go for a walk around the Chautauqua Institution, our usual Sunday exercise when the CI season is over. It was a good choice as it was not only nice and cool as we walked, but all the front gardens were in bloom, the Church service had just begun and they also were having an arts and craft show.  We listened to the choir then went for a walk and ended up at the art show.

A Typical Garden

We certainly do not need anything but we are attracted to a couple of potters who participate in the Empty Bowls Day, which feeds the food pantry in Dunkirk. We ended up buying a cute piggy bank and another vase for Evie's dahlias. Just another example of buying what you don't need but want.  It was a fun way to spend the morning.

We were home by 12:30 and Evie made us a Turkish menemen, egg, tomatoes, and feta omelet. Along with a bagel, we were both happy.  The rest of the afternoon was a day of rest, with Evie spending most of it on the dock reading and I joined her after my nap.  Around 5:30, we enjoyed a cocktail and appetizers on the porch, watching the lake traffic quiet down, the sky start darken.  Dinner was easy, the leftover roasted chicken, with spicy sauce, and the veggies with farro. We watched a movie from 2009 called State of Play. It filled our evening but that was about it. The best part of the evening was finishing the blueberry crisp with vanilla ice cream.  We were both happy to go up to bed to read.
