Cold, Windy, And Gray

Better Together

8:16

8:47

It's 8:45 and I just returned from a bracing 25-minute paddle on a cold, windy, choppy lake. No one will be out on the lake today, only crazies like me. I was up at a decent hour 6:45 and was out on the lake by 8:00, serenaded as usual by a couple of shotgun blasts in the distance.

Kayak Morning

Yesterday was a nasty day really, with either sleet or drizzle on and off much of the day. It did not stop me from getting in a good paddle because the lake was calm, making it safe to cross the lake to Long Point the back home. When I returned, Evie was up and we were in no hurry to get going, so we had a leisurely morning, enjoying our coffee, finishing the blog, and having some breakfast. By 11:00, however, we decided to brave the weather, hoping it might snow rather than drizzle. We drove to Mayville because we wanted to walk Webb's Trail, an old railroad line. It's nice and flat, bordered on both sides by trees so it makes for a good walk. We were out for close to an hour, in drizzle and occasionally sleet but we loved it although I am not sure why. We like the wind, the snow or sleet, blowing in our faces as we hike, not for long, but for a bit. Anyways, we felt righteous after our walk, thinking we were the only ones out for a hike on this miserable day.

Almost Winter

As we drove home, both of us looked forward to our big breakfast of eggs, bacon, and toast. By 1:30, we were watching the Buffalo Bills game and eating our breakfast. We stayed with the boring game until the very end, happy the Bills eeked out a victory. After the game, Evie gave me a much-needed shearing and then we both showered and got ready to go out for Sunday dinner at our friends Linda and Ron's home.

Sleet at 5:30

It was dark and drizzling when we drove over so it was nice to walk in their cozy house, fire burning, the Christmas tree up, and outdoor lights on.  We have not been together for close to a month because we have been on a couple of road trips so we had lots to share.

Two Gals And A Salad

A Beautiful Table, Delicious Dinner

We enjoyed breaded artichokes for appetizers, then adjourned for dinner, racks of lamb, and Greek lemon potatoes. It was delicious and took us back to our old days in Turkey and Greece where lamb was common. We then sat by the fire until 10:00, enjoying an aperitif and a fruit plate. We drove home at 10;:00 in utter darkness, on an empty road. No TV for either of us as we were ready for bed.
