The Swamp, Wings, And Lucy

Loving Beer And Wings At The Swamp

7:07

Well, it's late, 9:00,  even though I was up at 6;30, ready to kayak by 7:00 but had to wait for the fog to mostly lift.  All four of us are up, enjoying coffee, waiting for me to finish the blog on chilly 46º. I had a good paddle, for an hour, and was lucky to see quite a few birds.

Yesterday was a fun-packed day, as we took our friend's sightseeing, mostly in Jamestown.  The day started as usual, and any reader knows what that means, kayaking, blogging, and breakfast. The gang didn't get started until 10:00, with an Evie breakfast,  a Turkish menemen, with bagels as we decided what to do with our morning. We settled on driving to Lakeside Cemetery to see Lucille Ball's grave and walk around the cemetery. It was a beautiful morning for an outing and Vickie loved the hearts in the cemetery walk which led to Lucy's plot.

Corn Husk Teepee

A couple of tourists were there as well.  We then left for Jamestown dropped Evie off to get a blood test and the three of us drove to a veggie stand on RT 60, to the outside of Jamestown, and picked up some corn on the cob. We then drove down to Mc Crea Point where the Chautauqua Belle is docked and then ended up at Jamestown's most notorious dive bar, the aptly named The Swamp.

Obviously

Evie and I had only been once but Vickie was game so we walked across the dock pieces to get into the bar without getting wet. The gal who owns the place welcomed us, as the bar was filled with one friendly guy. Well, I hate to say but the four of us loved it, ordered beers and wings, the best in town according to the bartender. And they were really good, so good that both Evie and Vickie went on line and voted The Swamp's wings as the best in Jamestown. After our wings, we stopped in Celeron, home of Lucille Ball, and took photos of Lucy's bronze statue in Lucille Ball Park. We then walked around the fancy new Harbor House hotel, still seemingly out of place in the modest town of Celeron. We ended our tour at Wegman's, picking up a few things for dinner, and didn't arrive home until 3:00.

Lake Cruising

All of us were tired except for Evie and took naps or went to the yard and read. Evie, meanwhile, prepped some of the dinner, making the teriyaki marinade for a couple of porterhouse steaks. All of us were ready for a boat ride by 4:45 and took a nice cruise over to Bemus and back. The lake calmed down some and all four of us loved cruising the lake.  When we returned, Evie put potatoes in the oven and we sat in the living room enjoying a brie with bleu cheese and crackers until Ron and I went out and grilled the steaks.  Dinner was great of course and we even had some steak left for breakfast with eggs one of the next two days. We then watched some of the Chiefs game on Prime but wanted to see another episode of Chernobyl on Netflix. It is riveting, even the second time around, filmmaking and acting at its best. We were ready for bed by 10:30, tired from our Swamp Day.
