Waking To The Sound Of The Ocean (710 Miles From Home)

Walking The Dogs

First Beach Walk

7:09

7:19

It's 5:50 and I am the only one up so far, the house, the sky, dark except for my computer screen. It's 51º but should get up into the '70s later and be sunny much of the day. That's why we are here.  It's 6:30 as I finish the first iteration of the blog.  Everyone is still sleeping and I will have to wait and forty-five minutes before going down to the beach to take photos of the sunrise.  Until then, I will drink my coffee and read the NYTimes and Washington Post until Drew gets up and we will continue our discussions.

Ready To Travel

Jill And Dasiy

First Selfie Of The Week

Yesterday was another long drive, six hours, to Topsail, the last hour always the longest.  The roads were busy at least in my mind and it did not seem like anyone was staying home, hunkering down because of the virus, us included.  Interstate #95 South was packed with cars in both directions but let up some once we got beyond Richmond, VA.  We got off it at Wilson, NC, and the roads were still busy but not like #95.  We had one stop for Chick-fil-A.

Halle And Her Two Grands

We got to our condo, a triplex, on the beach just after 5:00.  We have a swimming pool and of course steps just beyond the pool to the beach, practically empty, one person in sight walking their dog. We spent a good hour unpacking the car, putting things away, and trying to figure out how to get on the WiFi system.  Around 6:30, we finally walked down to the beach, with the dogs, and walked for 15 minutes, again, literally the only ones on the beach.  The ocean was rough and signs warned about rip tides. What a delight to walk on the beach again for Evie and me.  It's been a couple of years for sure.

Sand Dunes

When we came in, Evie, Jill, and Drew's Mom got busy with dinner.  Evie had made stuffed shells and chicken cutlets so all they needed to do was heat them up, make a salad, and heat up a tomato sauce for the shells.  We sat around enjoying either beer or wine until dinner was ready.  Dinner tasted really good and we were hungry so it was a good choice.  We sat around after dinner for a good hour at the huge dining room table, telling stories about previous vacations, entertaining 15-year-old Halle with our stories.

Jill, Daisy and Coco Running On The Beach

Like Friday night, we were all tired by 9:30 so Evie and I went downstairs, put things away and got ready for bed.  I walked upstairs to say good night to everyone but all the lights were off.  Everyone was in bed by 9:45.  Please forgive me for all the photos; it's our first day on the beach so we have quite a few.
