A Walk In The Woods

Hobie Cat Afternoon

6:52

It's a crystal clear morning on the lake, not a cloud in the sky, and 43º.  Because I visit the dentist at 9:00, I was able to get in a short paddle, just enough to enjoy a morning on the lake as the sun rose.

Yesterday was another stellar fall day.  They just keep coming so that I wonder what we have in store for us once fall is over.  I  got in a short paddle before driving off to Finns Subaru to get a new fog light and make sure all the fluids were fine.  It only took twenty minutes but I got in a nice walk down a dead-end street where a bridge, over Little Brokenstraw Creek, is out.  I paid Finn twenty buck for his work and headed home on a beautiful drive through the Chautauqua County countryside.

When I returned home, Evie had a number of chores she wanted to get done by Friday.  One was putting away the last of the window air conditioners as well as finishing up the upstairs bedrooms so they are ready for winter after a thorough autumn cleaning.  We listened to the Supreme Court hearings, mostly a bore as Barrett refused to answer most questions, like previous candidates.  Why even have these hearings if they take the fifth.

We then decided to go for a walk so we drove over to the end of Lakeside Drive and went for an hour walk through Long Point State Park, the leaves seemingly at their peak.  We loved it of course and wished the woods always stayed this colorful

Lunch was the leftover sub from Wegmans, Utz chips and I watched the first episode of Season Three of Babylon Berlin.  I then spent time looking for books for my Kindle from the libraries on my Kindle. It's amazing how many people are reading on their devices rather than a book in hand.  The waiting list for some books may be fifty to seventy-five people.

During my nap, Evie put together our dinner, chicken enchiladas.  Around 4:00, we decided to put up our canvas curtain on our back porch, a sign that cold weather is on its way.  It took 15 minutes to put it up although we had to cut down some of Evie plants to hang it.  We then did some transplanting in Evie's garden until 5:00 when she had a zoom call with her sisters.

Around 6:30, we got out a good brie and enjoyed our wine, watching a single Hobie Cat sail up and down the sun-drenched lake. It reminded me of the old days when we took out our Hobie Cat on days like this.  We were looking forward to the evening because we wanted to finish the last two episodes of Borgen.  The dinner was merely heating up the enchiladas.  We watched both episodes, stopping only for dessert, then finished up the series. We were disappointed in the ending, the last episode but still really liked the series.
