Once More To The Ocean

This Morning's View From The Porch

It's 6:15 and I am sitting in my daughter's living room in Northern Virginia.  My son in law, Drew and I are the only ones up drinking coffee.  No sign of light out their porch and we will be waiting quite a bit for the girls to get up.  It's a chilly  39º here this morning, 53º in Topsail, North Carolina where we will be going today.  Drew and I always talk about both sports and politics and it's fun because of his background in the military.

We left a cold Chautauqua yesterday at 9:00, hoping for an easy ride and it was.  Unfortunately, much of the seven-hour ride through the hills of Pennsylvania was overcast so the colors were not as striking as they could have been.  We were entertained, however, by the plethora(hundreds) of Trump signs blaring out from small towns and rural areas.  We did, however, count twenty one Biden signs during our seven hour drive, twenty one more than Hilary signs four years ago.  Evie assumes that if there's no Trump sign, they must be for Biden.

We had two stops, for breakfast and lunch, at Mc Donalds and once for gas at the Shawnee Fruit Market And Gas, but Evie refused to buy anything because no one was wearing a mask.  We arrived at Jill's just after four, a seven hour drive as usual.  Jill and Halle were home to greet us along with Daisy and Coco their two dogs who recognized us.  We had little to bring in and sat around, waiting for Drew to return home from golfing and wine time.  It was fun seeing them again because it has been just about eleven months since when we saw them last   They are both busy, working from home and Jill is setting up her own business, having left the Realty company she worked at for a few years.  She is much happier on her own and is doing well.

We had authentic Indian takeout for dinner, some of the best Indian food we have had in years.  Everyone was hungry and we devoured it, especially the butter chicken and chickent tikki masala, both with naan.  All of us were tired, us from the drive, them from working and getting ready so by 9:30 we all went up to bed, knowing we would have another six hour drive ahead of us today.

I will end with an interesting but troubling fact from this morning's Writer's Almanac:  "Princeton's freshmen class of 1938 ranked Albert Eintstein as the second greatest living person; first place went to Adolf Hitler."
