More Gray Than White

A Rare Sighting Of A Goldeneye

8:15

It's 8:00 on a  Chautauqua gray sky and lake but a white, snow-covered yard. It's still a toasty 30º and has been that way for a couple of days, but not cold enough for the majority of the lake to freeze. So I will be out kayaking in a bit. It's 9:30 and I paddled down to Magnolia and Whitney Bay, feeling like I was the only one left in the world. Nary a boat on the lake, nor light in a cottage. Just me and herds of seagulls on a windless morning, an amazingly calm lake. I loved it.

No Fear

Yesterday was much like this morning, mostly gray but a  good day for a walk. So after my paddle, breakfast, and the blog, we debated whether to walk Long Point or our usual Sunday walk at the Chautauqua Institution. The CI won out but we didn't get started until 11:15, in no hurry to get started on a leisurely Sunday. It was a good choice as the CI grounds were magical, with roads, trees, and bushes frosted with white. We were out, trudging through a couple of inches of unplowed streets, for over an hour and our sore legs were a result.

We were home just before 1:00 and Evie quickly got busy making our breakfast, this time a Turkish menemen or omelet, with tomatoes and feta cheese, a favorite. Because we were not interested in the football games, we watched our favorite Sunday morning show, CBS Sunday Morning, always different and interesting. After breakfast, Evie got busy making our dinner, pork ribs and sauerkraut. Once the ribs were seared Evie put them in the oven with the sauerkraut and tomatoes and slow-cooked them for a couple of hours until they were tender. I had my usual afternoon, reading, napping, and occasionally watching some football, mostly to see the score.

Falling Snow

It snowed some during our 5:30 happy hour so we were happy, just enjoying the news and looking at our devices or reading. Dinner was great, the pork tender, the mashed potatoes covered with sauerkraut. The Buffalo Bills game didn't go on until 8:30 so we watched Drops of God, then the Golden Globes until 9:00 when we switched to the Bills game which we had saved. We watched the first half, san commercials, then switched to the Golden Globes, also san commercials. By 10:00, we had enough football and awards and went to bed, hoping for the best, that the Bills would pull it out and win. They did!
