A Wild, Windy Gray Morning

7:50

Well, it's 8:15 and the high wind warnings are out so I don't think I will be kayaking. It's sleeting and the wind is howling so both of us a hunkering down with our coffee, watching the flag go crazy. I am hoping to go to yoga. Despite the wind, a bevy of ducks are huddled off the shore, enjoying breakfast.

Common Merganser

Monday was a surprisingly good day, mostly because we both had a good morning. I was lucky to get in a good, long paddle, down to Whitney Bay and back on a calm lake. On Saturday, because snow was predicted for both days, I went up to the attic and pulled down our skis, poles, and shoes. So after breakfast, we thought we would give Webb's Trail a try, hoping it would be good for cross-country skiing. We were rewarded with five or six inches of snow and an empty trail except for one runner, who passed us coming and going. We were out for close to an hour, skiing a couple of miles, and were lucky the snow was not too wet. It was a winter wonderland of trees and bushes, frosted with snow. We were home by 12:30 and I had the leftover ramen noodles with chicken and mushrooms for lunch. I watched the fourth quarter of the Bills game, to see them score two touchdowns in the fourth quarter for a win.

A Happy Evie Joy

Snow Bound

Our afternoons are becoming predictable, lots of leisure, reading, some TV, and a nap. The only blip was we took down our artificial Christmas tree and stored it in the attic for another year. And that was it until 5:00 when we had our usual happy hour and Evie prepped dinner, salmon wellington with garlic, shallots, spinach and some cheese, a new recipe Evie wanted to try. We relaxed until 6:30 when Evie pulled out the salmon and we feasted on it along with a salad. We were excited to finally watch Barbie after all the accolades at the Golden Globes but were bored with it after a half hour. Something must be wrong with us, I guess. We then watched a new Hometown and Drops of God, then some football before going up to bed.
