7:47 |
It's 7:50 and I have been up for over an hour, as a few snowflakes fall, just enough to turn the green lawn white. It's gotten colder, 26º, quite a change from temperatures in the 60s this past weekend. We may get a dusting this morning but nothing substantial.
Monday ended up being a good day as we got some things done and were able to enjoy it. After breakfast, coffee, and the blog, Evie put together our dinner for tonight because we went out for dinner Monday night. It's one of our favorites, pork ribs, and sauerkraut. Once she seared the ribs, she added sauerkraut and tomatoes and let it bake in the oven for over an hour. While Evie was busy cooking, I decided it was still too icy and windy to walk so I spent forty-five minutes doing Yoga With Adriene on YouTube. After yoga, Evie gave me a much-needed haircut in the TV room and I then showered. We were done by 11:00 and decided to do our weekly shopping at Wegmans. Monday is a good day because it's not very busy. Interestingly, because the mask mandate has expired, most of the workers were maskless for the first time in months. Evie and I, however, wore masks as did a smattering of shoppers. We were in and out quickly and home putting things away by 12:15. Lunch was cauliflower soup and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, a somewhat incongruous pair but tasty nevertheless,

Late Afternoon Fishing |
It was nice to have everything we either wanted or needed to do by 1:00 so that we could have a leisurely afternoon, as an occasional wind gust would buffet the house. My afternoon routine does not change much, just the book I am reading. I napped for over an hour because I was up so early and by 6:00, we were both ready to pick up our friends, Linda and Ron, and go out to dinner in Westfield, at Calarco's Italian Restuarant, one of the only restaurants open around her on Monday (they are closed on Tuesday). Other than a table of 15 celebrating a birthday, we were practically the only ones there. It's one of the oldest restaurants around and has the feel of a restaurant out of the 1950s or 1960s. We love their tomato sauce so all our meals were good, whether spaghetti, lasagna, or chicken parmesan. It was fun to get out on a Monday night, enjoy a good meal with friends and be home by 9:00, in time to watch a show before bed.
