Sunny, Blue Skies And 23º

7:15

7:16

I woke up later than usual, around 7:15 just as the sun was filling the living room with light. A brisk wind kept the flag flying, the lake surface wrinkled, on a surprisingly chilly morning. It's 9:30 and Evie's up. I did get in a 25 minutes paddle, battling the wind and waves as I kayaked north, then floated home. I also spent 15 minutes picking up another trash can of deadfall from yesterday afternoon's ferocious winds.

Kayak Morning

Rough Waters North

Paddling South

Saturday morning was fine, with lots of clear skies and warm, getting up to the 60s around noon. I got in a long paddle, relaxed some with breakfast, then gathered the trash and drove off to the Transfer Station. Evie wanted to get some things done in the kitchen because we were having neighbors over for dinner so I drove to Mayville, dropped off packages at the UPS, picked up a prescription, and stopped in Tops before going for a bike ride around the Chautauqua Institution. I circle the grounds twice, enjoying the warm weather for once.

Thunder Bridge

Lunch was easy, a couple of slices of pizza and I watched the rest of the Iowa women's basketball game. I have seen few players take over a game so completely as did Caitlin Clark. She is fun to watch. By 1:00, however, we were getting severe thunderstorm warnings from Niagara Mohawk, and for once they were right. I cannot remember such heavy winds, filling the lake with white caps, and filling our yard with deadfall. We also lost electricity for an hour or two, complicating Evie's prepping for our dinner. In between storms, I filled a bucket with deadfall only to see more fall as another storm hit the area. We were lucky that our power returned because a number of restaurants in the area announced they were closed because of a lack of power.

Thunder, Rain, And Winds

Ferocious Winds And White Caps

By 6:00, it began to snow just as our neighbors, Pat and Dave, drove up. It was a miserable evening of snow, sleet, and rain and we were happy to be inside, enjoying drinks and appetizers, looking out. Evie had put together an Indian dinner, beginning with cauliflower soup, then butter chicken, spinach with tofu, salad, and naan all everything was delicious. For dessert, she made lemon cream cake, a sweet ending to our dinner. We sat around talking until 10:00 and they then drove home. Evie was tired and went up to bed but I stayed up and did most of the dishes and watched some of the Miami/UConn game.
