A Foggy Morning, A Frozen Lake

7:21

It's just after 8:00 and we are both up, watching the fog begin to lift, and some color appears in the sky. It's a chilly 39º but will warm up some later in the day and we may get some sunshine in the afternoon, Hallelujah. The lake is still frozen so I can't kayak but not safe enough for ice fishermen. Darn.

Taking Off

Yesterday was a drab beginning to 2023, drizzle, gray skies, a good day to stay inside. After our morning ritual of the blog and breakfast and coffee, we had little if anything we had to do because we were invited to an open house in the afternoon so we did not have to worry about dinner. Despite the weather, I was determined to get outside so I walked our woods, the trails packed with wet leaves. As I walked to the lake down Victoria, a gaggle of geese we parading on the frozen lake until I scared them off, a strange sight.

A Gaggle Of Geese

By 1:00, we were watching some football. What else do people do on New Year's Day?  As I mentioned we were invited to Julia and Tom's for an open house. They live about 15 minutes away, on 60 acres, with a lovely house and a pond. Julia had an amazing spread of food and champagne with peaches. About ten of us gathered and got to know each other which was fun. Everyone stayed until 4:30, and left happy and sated with shrimp, ham sandwiches, salmon toasts, grape leaves, dip, and baklava. Yum

There was no need for dinner, so we watched some TV movies, then football until we could not stand it any longer. Evie went up to bed early so I decided to watch a movie that various sights recommended, John Wick. Well, after a half hour and at least 20 to 30 guys killed by John, I had enough and went to bed, too.
