Glorious On The Lake

"Peace And Love"...Our New Winter Flag

It's just 9:00 as I start this after a 50-minute paddle, my usual route to Wells Bay and back.  This time I had to plow through an occasional thin skin of ice to get in and out. It was 33º when I started out and now it's 36º, sunny with blue skies and lake.

Sunday was another day of leisure; I know I am saying this too often lately although when you are retired, every day can be a day of leisure.  It was, however, glorious to have a nice day after Saturday's wind storm. We decided, after breakfast and the blog, to take our Sunday constitutional, a walk around the Chautauqua Institution. We did the whole loop this time, close to three miles and over an hour on a crispy morning.  We were the only ones out at the time despite the fine weather.

We were home around 1:00, just as football was starting.  Evie made us breakfast, bagels, and eggs and we watched a few minutes of the Browns game before turning to our favorite Sunday show, CBS Sunday morning.  I took a brief nap then went out and did some work picking up deadfall in the front yard from Saturday's wind.  It seems like a neverending chore but then, we love our two maples and put up with the deadfall.

We watched some football, some news, the breaking news that Chris Wallace, the only Fox News commentator that we trust, has resigned and is going to CNN.  Interesting. While I was reading or outside, Evie made me some Christmas cookies to go with my tea. Love it. Dinner was in the oven by 5:00, Adobo chicken, again my idea, a Filipino dish with chicken baked in soy and vinegar and garlic, served over rice. We ate dinner watching the end of the Bills game as they came up short once again despite a great fourth-quarter comeback.  We gave up on finding a film after Saturday night's debacle and stayed with our tried and true, Colbert, and a couple of episodes of Curb Your Enthusiasm, produced, directed, and written by a former student of mine, Jeff Schaeffer. He also wrote for Seinfeld.
