Early Morning Dusting Of Snow

I am sitting in my living room, listening to NPR over the hum of the wind, on a windy overcast morning. It's 28º with a dusting of snow forecast for the next hour. Although I went out kayaking yesterday mid-morning, it's too windy and gray to get out there today.

A Spectacular Morning Paddle

Tuesday was a big day because Jonathan, our floor installer, finally finished up our kitchen flooring, so no more angst as to whether he will show up to work or not.  He's a strange guy, stubborn as heck, about lots of things I won't mention other than the fact that he thinks the government cannot be trusted, that's it's out to deny him his freedoms. And whatever happens, it's God's will.  Once he was on his way, Evie finished up her extensive shopping list, getting ready for the Apocalypse as I put it.

We then drove to Wegman's to join the throngs of shoppers, most but not all masked, grabbed two carts, and off we went to fill them both with goodies to last us a couple of weeks or more. Everyone seemed to be wheeling carts groaning with groceries, no doubt getting ready for Christmas Eve and Day. Fortunately, I was able to buy four Rapid Covid Tests at the pharmacy. Our bill was less than we both thought, under three hundred bucks and we remembered to get our 5% discount at checkout.

We did not get home until 12:30 and spent a good 15 minutes putting things away.  I bought a slice of pizza from Wegman's for lunch, at the inflated price of 3.50, to go along with another bowl of soup. I started Season Six of Foyle's War then adjourned to the couch and finally finished up my book, Crossroads by Jonathan Franzen.  I have mixed emotions because it was hard to like any of the characters despite the fact that most of them were guided by their relationship with God.  After another good nap, I drove off to Mayville for Evie, to mail a return, pick up a prescription, and gas up the Outback for tomorrow's drive to visit our daughter Jill in Virginia.

At 5:00, Evie had her Zoom call with her sisters and I read and watched some TV, channel surfing to find something worth watching after our dinner, After her call, we had dinner, the leftover pork, sauerkraut, and mashed potatoes from Sunday night and as always, it was just as good as ever.  We watched a documentary on The Villages, the retirement community of 100,000 in Florida which was interesting although they tended to focus on two outliers, not the typical retiree.

We then watched the new Lucille Ball film called "Being The Ricardos." We almost turned it off after 15 minutes but were glad we persevered because it became much more interesting, especially when Lucy was accused of being a Communist. I remembered many of the details in the film from watching it on Monday nights at 9:00 in the 1950s but I don't remember her being accused of being a Communist.  We liked it enough to recommend it, free on Amazon Prime, Evie then went up to bed but I stayed up and watched a quarter of the Laker/Suns game.
