6:52 |
It's later than usual as I start the blog, just after 9:00 on a gray, cool morning, high today in the 60s. I kayaked for an hour, over to Warner Bay, back to Sandy Bottom, and home on a quiet lake. Just was kayaking back from Warner Bay, a guy in a paddle kayak, passed by fishing, with his dogs in the front and back of his kayak. I was up at 6:30 and around 7:00, the duck hunters were out firing away across the lake.

Yesterday was a day a decision, what to do with our floor, who to call about installing it, things like that. It began as usual with kayaking, breakfast, blog, and then I went off to yoga to get away from the making of decisions. The class was good, and I stopped at Save A Lot to pick up a few things we needed for dinner. When I returned home, we were able to come to some conclusions. First, guys are arriving this morning to tear out the floor. How much depends on the moisture. We were also able to find an installer and he promised to stop by on Tuesday around 5:00.

Kingfisher On Our Dock |
So with those decisions made, Evie took off to Mayville to mail some returns in Mayville and stop at Tops for a few things. When she returned, she made me one of my new favorites for lunch, avocado toast with eggs and I watched the first episode of Season Two of Proof. It continues to be good. Evie then spent a good part of the afternoon reading on the porch, happy to rid us of uncertainty. I read and napped but then wanted to get in some exercise so I drove over to the Chautauqua Institution and rode my bike around the grounds a couple of times. The gates are open and the crowds have disappeared although many families remain, probably for a week or two while the weather holds.

Thunder Bridge At The CI |
I was home in time to meet our installer. He had a couple of meetings with homeowners in the CI so we were on his way home. He thinks we ought to get the entire floor taken out or we will not be able to match the flooring. We are not sure what the adjuster will say so he gave us prices for both doing the entire flooring or just the parts that needed to be ripped out because of moisture. He seems like a good guy but cannot get to it till October so we will have a kitchen torn up for a month.
Dinner was chicken piccata with corn, rice, and a salad. It tasted really good, probably because we have not had it in a while. We watched a recent film on Prime Video called The Courier and we really liked it. It's based on a true story, set during the Cuban Missile Crisis, a spy thriller. We ended the night reluctantly with Netflix's The Chair which we panned after watching the first episode. Many of our teaching friends seemed to really like it so we tried it again. It's still silly, predictable, and needlessly vulgar so we are looking at it as a comedy.
