When I went out to kayak at 7:00,  I seemed to be the only one on the lake. As I paddled over to Long Point and back, a fishing boat or two appeared and a couple of kayakers. It was a good morning, with a heron, an osprey, and merganser. It's getting really cool, 50º when I woke up at 6:30 and a chilly paddle at 7:00.

Yesterday was a strange Labor Day, with hardly a picnic along Woodlawn as most seemed to head home before the roads became crowded and one family brought in their dock, a sure sign of the coming of Autumn and cool weather. We had our usual morning then decided to go for a walk along Lakeside Drive in Bemus Point.  It was surprisingly windy much of the way and interestingly, the road was closed to cars because of a benefit for a local family with lots of runners and families participating.  We walked for close to an hour, two and a half miles, so we could feel good about ourselves.  We did something.  When we returned home, Evie made me a BLT for lunch, with lots of bacon and tomatoes. Yum. The rest of the afternoon we spent either reading in the side yard, moving our chairs to stay in the warming sun, or in the house, on the couch reading and napping.

At 6:00, we left for Linda and Ron's because they were having us over to celebrate my birthday.  Linda went all out, of course, having printed copies of previous birthdays from my blog to read, one's we had spent together.  We had whiskey sours on their front porch with mushrooms stuffed with sausage.  It was a delightful early evening to spend on their front porch.  Around 7:00, Ron and I grilled the corn and New York strips for dinner,

The steaks were great, the corn sweet, and the salad nice and vinegary.  Before we sat down, I opened my present, a monogrammed vintage 1943 Manhattan class (Evie received one too Vintage 1944). What a fun and thoughtful gift!  We finished the night with my favorite, a multiple layered chocolate cake with ice cream, with enough for leftovers which we happily took home,

It was a fun night with Linda and Ron, our good friends for at least the past 13 years.  We didn't get home until 9:45 and watched some TV for a bit before going up to read and sleep,
