It's just after 8:00 and I have been up since 5:30, reading various newspapers and then kayaking for an hour over to Long Point, back to Sandy Bottom, and home. No birds to speak of, just a few mallards dipping for weeds.

Garden In The Morning |
Yesterday was another morning of uncertainty but by noon, we had some clarity. The black mold was no longer a problem, so all they left in the kitchen was a dehumidifier, to dry out a few more areas that may have gotten wet. The guys will be back Tuesday to patch some of the subfloor, take away everything and we will have our kitchen back. At the beginning of October, we will get new flooring installed. At least we can use it now despite half of it is the subfloor. The guys who worked with us were great, doing everything possible to help us along.

Once they left, I drove over to Bemus and biked for an hour to clear my mind of the past week's craziness. I was out for an hour and stopped in Bemus Point to take photos of Matt's zinnia garden which he plants each spring. It's an amazing flood of colors and for six bucks, you can pick a bouquet.
When I returned, Evie was out on the dock reading because our house is still a mess. I had the rest of the sub for lunch, watched my show, read, and napped as usual. The afternoon seemed to go quickly and by 6:00, we were showered and ready to go out to dinner with our neighbors, Bill and Joyce. We decided on the Cockaigne, a half-hour away and a beautiful drive through the countryside. The dining room is spacious so we were not crowded together. Our waitress was a hoot, talkative and efficient which was nice. All four of us had the fish fry, with coleslaw and french fries and we had to have the stack of onion rings for an appetizer although we were unable to finish them. It was a pleasant place for dinner, the food was great and we were home by 8:30, just as it was getting dark. We watched some TV until we got tired, mostly channel surfing because nothing sounded good so we went up to bed.
