On The Road Again

With  Our Granddaughter, Hayden, At Morgan Hotel Bar

View Of Hotel Morgan from Iron Horse Tavern

Historic Hotel Morgan Chandeliers

We are staying in the refurbished Hotel Morgan in downtown Morgantown, West Virginia. It's 6:50 and I have been sitting in the hotel lounge since 6:15, enjoying a coffee. I am the only one in the lounge and Evie's still sleeping upstairs.

Back Roads

We left the lake Wednesday morning at 9:30. Before leaving, I did get in a half-hour paddle and wrote the blog. We decided to take backroads the first third of our drive, basically through Panama to Corry, then south on RT 77 to Meadville where we picked up #79 which runs between Erie, Pa, down to Pittsburgh, then West Virginia and Morgantown and South, It was spectacular most of the way, a panoply of fall colors, especially our drive to Meadville when we had time to enjoy the scenery on the back roads. The only depressing part was all the Mastriano and Oz political signs in the rural part of Pennsylvania.

We checked into our hotel at 2:00, texted our granddaughter Hayden and she came over to meet us. We then walked to her apartment, about five minutes from our hotel.  Her apartment is not in the best of neighborhoods, down an alley but once inside, we were charmed. Both Hayden and her roommate, Ailey, fixed it up so that it belongs in a decorator magazine.

Hayden's Apartment

Chanel

They have two bedrooms, two floors, a living room and kitchen, and lots of room for their new kitten, Chanel. We then went for a walk around the downtown campus, the older section of the Univesity, and stopped at Grinders for a coffee after our walk. We then went back to Hayden's apartment and relaxed, played with Chanel, and talked until 5:00 when we decided to go back to our hotel but would meet Hayden at 6:30 in the hotel's bar.

Coffee With Hayden

It felt good to relax and recharge in our hotel room for an hour before meeting Hayden in the hotel's cool bar downstairs. Hayden turned twenty-one in August so for the first time, we were able to legally order her a Dirty Shirley. I had the bar's signature Old Fashion and Evie had water because we shared my Old Fashion.

Hayden And Her Granny

We met Hayden's friends, Ailey and Brie, across the street at the recommended Iron Horse. It was a good choice, busy with an interesting menu. I ordered 24 oz PBR for four bucks, the others had water or a beer. Two of us decided on the special, lamb and beef meatloaf with bordelaise sauce, mashed potatoes, and brussels sprouts, a good choice. Evie ordered a great salad and Hayden a barbecued pork sandwich. All were tasty.

Dinner At The Iron Horse

We spent dinner talking about the girl's plans for their future because two are seniors and Brie graduates in December. Only Brie, a nurse, is sure what she might end up doing.  We stayed till 8:30 said our sad goodbyes to Hayden and friends, and went back to our hotel. We watched some TV, and read, but turned the lights off by 9:45.
