Autumn In Virginia

Happy Grandparents

Anna And Her Mom, Julia

9:03

It's 8:00 and I have been up since 6:30 and Drew since 7:00. We have watched BBC News and are now on Sports Center on ESPN. We are the only two up, of course. It looks like a stellar day, with clear skies and highs in the low 70s. Well, it's 9:40 and all are up, even the dogs, Daisy and Coco, ready for the day.

Drew And Jill

Friday we took it easy, no surprise, in the morning. The guys were up early, the gals late. Evie and I had no plans in the morning but Halle had school, Jill pilates, and Drew had a doctor's appointment.  It felt good to not have to do anything although I did drive to Gateway to get gas at BJ's, the cheapest around at 3.49, as my car was literally empty. For lunch, I had a ham sandwich and chips and both of us showered before hitting the road again.

Ellen And Luke

We were driving to Herndon, about a forty-minute drive, to see my sister Ellen and her husband, Walt. When we arrived, they were sitting out on their outdoor patio, a beautiful backyard of shade trees and plants. The highlight of our stay was the arrival of their daughter Julia and her two children, Anna, four, and Luke, one. We really haven't seen any of them since 2019 so it was really fun to see Ellen, Walt, Julia, and their grandchildren and daughter.

We knew the grandkids were going to be there, so Evie brought along the Treasure Chest, a favorite of all grandkids. We basically played or watched both Anna and Luke until 6:00, occasionally talking about something other than grandchildren but they were the center of our attention. Anna loved the Treasure Chest and ended up taking a lunch box home, her one gift, but it was filled with lots of other treasures.

What Fun

The two of them love being at their Grammy's house and warmed to both Evie and me quickly.  It was a fun way for both of us to spend the afternoon and Walt and Ellen are so lucky to have them only a half hour away.

Bye, Bye

We reluctantly said our alohas and drove back to Bristow, arriving around 6:45. Jill had the wine out and dinner made, pork carnitas with all the fixings. We relaxed with a glass of wine or two. We were all hungry and devoured the pulled pork carnitas. We started watching a show about the Thai Soccer team but quickly decided it was not for us and ended up watching an episode of The Great British Baking Show, always entertaining. We waited for Halle to come home from work at 10:00 before going downstairs to sleep, again, tired from our day.
