Perfect: Blue Skies, Sunshine, Calm Lake

6:46

8:29

It's 6:57 and the sun popped up over the horizon about 20 minutes ago, filling the living room with light. It should stay this way for an hour or two before the clouds and heavy winds take over on a 39º morning. I did get in an hour paddle, down to the Power Boat Club and back before the winds picked up.  I also talked with a fellow padder, in a cool fishing kayak.  So far, he's catching mostly perch and a few bass and he seems to be out early most mornings, hanging around the reeds.

Yesterday was a busy morning, of a quick paddle, breakfast in Bemus, then a yoga class in Lakewood. Because schools are on vacation this week, the coffee shop was crowded for the first time in months, and yoga attendance was way down, also because of the vacation. After yoga, I had a few quick stops, at the dermatologist's office to get my hat which I left behind (idiot), then the bank, then Aldi's to pick up a few items for the weekend.

When I got home, it was afternoon and Evie had been busy, putting together most of our dinner because we were having neighbors over at 6:00. My lunch was the leftover chicken parm from Wednesday night's dinner, more than enough as I watched my show.  We spent the afternoon relaxing, getting the house ready for company, prepping dinner, setting the table, things like that.  Of course, I got in a quick nap and read some of my new book The Expats by Chris Pavone.

A Spring Dinner

Barb and Jim arrived at 6:00, with a nice bottle of red wine and a couple of tasty cheeses.  We sat around the living room for a good hour, enjoying the wine and appetizers, catching up on Woodlawn gossip.  Dinner was an old standby, in fact, it was our go-to dinner for the company when we lived in Honolulu in the late 1960s, chicken with mushrooms and artichoke hearts.  It's still a great company dish. With a salad and rice, the four of us were happy.  For dessert, we had Junior's cheesecake with blueberries and raspberries, a yummy way to end the evening.  Barb and Jim left around 9:15, giving us enough time to clean up the kitchen and watch Jeopardy before bed.  It was a fun evening.
