The Cleveland Browns Did It!

7:44

8:42

It's 8:00 on another chilly morning, the sky caught between gray and blue, unable to make up its mind what kind of morning we are going to have.  The lake is slick in some areas, rough in others, and still not frozen enough for ice fishermen.

Brick Walk

Sunday was a fun day because the Browns won, erasing thoughts for a few hours of the terrorist attack on the Capitol.  Futbol is the opium of the people, as soccer fans know.  We had our usual Sunday morning routine, of finishing up the blog, breakfast, and deciding what to have for dinner and where to walk.  I suggested a walk at the Chautauqua Institutaion, then a stop at the Lighthouse Grocery and pick up some pork chops for dinner.  Evie agreed and we were off for our walk by 11:30, later than usual.  Once again, the weather was cold, 28º, but perfect for a walk because of the absence of wind.  We were out for an hour, running into just two other couples out for a walk, neither of which were wearing masks.

When we returned, Evie had the perfect idea of making a Turkish omelet for brunch, with feta cheese, tomatoes, and Turkish pepper.  We sat down to enjoy our menemen, with a sesame seed bagel, imaging we were back in Turkey.  We watched CBS Sunday Morning, part of our Sunday routine, then spent the rest of the afternoon either reading, watching TV, mostly football, or taking a nap.  The afternoon seemed to go quickly and before we knew it, Evie was breading the pork chops, getting them ready to fry.  She also made a new cauliflower recipe, simmering the head in a water bath with spices and butter until tender and making a beer cheese sauce to put over it.  We had a brief happy hour, as the pork chops were finishing off in the oven after browning along with baked potatoes,

Both of us must have been hungry because everything, the chops, cauliflower, and potatoes, and homemade applesauce tasted great and we went back for seconds.  We watched a pretty good movie on Prime Video called Herself, about a Mom, separated from her abusive husband, who ends up finding 'herself' by building a house for her two daughters with the help of new friends.  We ended the night watching the Browns game although I could not watch the second half, afraid the Browns might blow their lead.  It was with great relief that when I woke up, I found out they had eked out a victory.
