Ice Fishing Is Back

7:39

Ice Fishing Early Morning

It's a typical winter morning, with cloudy skies, a white lake and yard, and getting colder.  Yesterday afternoon I noticed the first fishing tents out on the lake and this morning at least five are out there early, mostly off of Long Point. Winter begins in earnest. It's 8:30 and as I glanced outside, I'm surprised to see the sky had darkened and it had begun to snow or sleet, making it difficult to see across the lake.

Changing Sky

The Bridge

Yesterday was a good day, in fact, a new day in America as we welcome a new President to the White House.  We both slept more soundly than usual.  Our days are becoming the same, no surprise, with a leisurely morning, getting a few things done but eventually, we settle on a place to get some exercise.  Thursday we decided to drive to Tom's Point.  Evie would snowshoe and I would cross country ski.  It's only a two-mile drive from our house which is nice.  Fortunately, someone had already skied and hiked out to the point making it easier for both of us.  Still, because of the foot and a half of snow, I worked up a real sweat and had to stop often because I was out of breath from the effort it took to ski.  We loved it, however, the changing sky, an occasional blast of sun, through the gray, winter-like sky.  It's just under two miles out and back so it was a perfect way to spend our morning.

When we returned, it was lunchtime.  Evie had a cup of soup and I finished up the scalloped potatoes and ham from Tuesday night's dinner. We both felt a sense of freedom for the rest of the afternoon because we were going to our friends, Linda and Ron's, for dinner.  So Evie could really relax, no worry about what to have for dinner, the same for me.  I guess you could say we wasted the afternoon because we either read, napped, or watched TV but it felt good.  Nothing needed to be done and we felt no guilt.

Dinner With Friends

We were on the road by 6:00, looking forward to our one outing a week.  Linda had appetizers out and Ron pulled out a couple of beers as we sat around tables in their kitchen, catching up. Dinner was a delicious eggplant and vegetable pie, meatballs with a spicy tomato sauce, and a salad.  Linda always makes something new and tasty.  We had our dessert in the living room, a chocolate mousse along with a small glass of ice wine, a perfect ending to the night.  We didn't' get home until just before 10:00 and watched some TV before going to bed, feeling fat and happy from our evening out.
