ByeDon

Winter Wonderland

It's both a hopeful morning but also a sad one as we wait for the inauguration of a new President in a practically empty Capitol, fortified by 20,000 National Guard troops, thanks to our exiting President and his supporters, many of whom are better characterized as domestic terrorists. It's been an exhausting four years and we can only hope for a change, a President who once again embodies truth, competency, fairness, accountability, and empathy, all missing the past four years.

7:12

It's 24º out this morning and I will be out shoveling our parking area in an hour as we received another four or five inches overnight.  The sky is overcast, the lake a dirty white at the moment as dawn is just beginning.  The winter storm warnings are over as we settle into a winter landscape for at least the next week.  This morning feels like winter for the first time, with the foot or more of snow and cold temperatures.

Fields Of Snow

Tuesday we accomplished what we wanted which was to cross country ski.  We had our usual leisurely morning, in no hurry to get busy.  After breakfast and the blog, I went outside and shoveled for 15 minutes, and cleaned the snow and ice off of our car. We then got a few things done around the house before getting ready to ski.  I prepared our skis with a silicon spray and we were off around 10:30, hoping to find a good trail.

Farm Next ToThe Trail

Webb's trailhead was not cleared so we went to Mayville and parked next to the Rails to Trails trailhead. Unfortunately, it was not yet groomed, still a virgin 10 to 12 inches of snow. It meant that I had to lead the way, bushwhacking the way, creating a path through the deep snow.  It's quite a workout and I quickly worked up a sweat.  It was, to be honest, more work than fun so we were out for only about 40 minutes.  Still, we were happy to be out there, especially Evie as this was her first-time cross-country skiing this winter. On the way home, we stopped at the Lighthouse Grocery, for a sub and ground chuck for tonight's dinner.

I had half of the sub sandwich for lunch along with a bowl of Evie's homemade vegetable soup and I finished Season Two of Deadwood.  I then started a couple of books, none of which have grabbed my interest although I am not sure why.  I am  becoming picky,  impatient wanting to immediately be pulled into the novel. I did take a good nap, waking wondering if it was morning or afternoon, a strange feeling,

Neither of us did much the rest of the afternoon. I attempted to read and Evie did some wash and put together our dinner, scalloped potatoes and ham casserole. She put it in the oven at 5:00, just as her weekly Zoom call began with her sisters.  We had dinner around 7:00, the casserole, just as good as I remember from my youth, along with Brussels sprouts and salad. We watched some of the coverage of the Biden tribute to the victims of the Covid19 virus.  We ended the evening with two more episodes of Your Honor and Jeopardy,  It was a good day, especially with the arrival of Biden and Harris in Washington, the change to come.
