Rain, Rain, And More Rain

Missing These Three

6:30

Swimming In The Rain

Well, it's 6:30, and Beth and I are sitting on the front porch because two of the kids are sleeping on couches in the front room, driven from their cottage because of the heat and lack of a bedroom air conditioner.  At the moment, we are having a respite from the past 24 hours of rain. In all my forty years here at the lake, I cannot remember so many consecutive rainy days. We received another two inches yesterday and today through Thursday looks like rainy days as well. We will survive.  It's 8:15 and I am back from a forty-minute paddle to a living room of coffee drinkers and everyone is on their device although talking is allowed.

Bald Eagle Juvenile

Yesterday despite the rain for most of it was a fun day.  I did get in a paddle before the deluge, came home to most everyone up discussing plans for the day.  Evie made pancakes for the gang, three batches and it was almost not enough.  We split into three groups:  One went to the  Chautauqua Institution for a walk in light rain, then stopped at the Lighthouse and picked up subs for our lunch.  Another  group went to the Fitness Bunker in Lakewood, then did some shopping at both Wegman's and Evans wines.  And three of us, Evie, Jill, and I stayed home and did a quick clean up of the house,

Getting Ready For Group Photo

When everyone got home around 1:00, the grandkids put on their bathing suits along with Evie and went for a swim in the rain, washing their hair, getting cleaned up.  We then enjoyed our subs for lunch and had a leisurely afternoon, listening to the rain, on our devices, and at 3:00, quite a few of us went into the TV room to watch the finals of the European Cup which Italy won in a shoot out.  While some of us were watching, Evie and the girls made baklava and the rest of the crew rearranged the living room so that we would have a good place to take our group picture since it was raining and our usual spot, on the front porch was too wet. Rami had his camera and umbrella lights set up for the shooting which went fairly well, with a minimum of silliness.

At 6:30, we drove over to the Casino for wings, in the rain, of course.  It's been a tradition for forty years to have wings at the Casino so we had to go there. It took a while for them to see up a table for 15 but once done, we had good service and ordered tons of wings and lots of pitchers of beer.  They were up to our requirements so it was a good choice on a rainy night.

Wings At The Casino

We always stopped for ice cream after wings so we stopped at the Bemus Grocery and everyone got a cone or cup.  We were home by 8:30 and eight of us played Telefunky, some watched TV, and others read until 10:30. It was the end of a surprisingly fun day despite the wet weather.
