A Deluge

Family, Summer, 2021

Aloha Friday Morning

Aloha Saturday Morning

It's 5:50 and I was awakened by more rain pouring down on our roof at 5:00 so I just got up.  We have been inundated by rain the last twenty-four hours, getting over four inches yesterday afternoon, flooding our neighbor's yards, overflowing the banks of Woodlawn Creek, just an inkling of the flooding in Europe. We got another inch overnight and it's supposed to rain on and off most of the day. And this morning, alas,  both grandsons head home, one driving to Boston, the other flying to Dallas. To make matters worst, my bilge pump doesn't work on my boat and it's taken on quite a bit of water.  As they say, when it rains, it pours!

Yesterday was a sad day, as most of the family left, Jill driving to Virginia, Tom and family flying to KC, and Beth and Marisa to Dallas,  We planned on taking my car and Tyler's to the airport but mine ended up having a problem with the brakes, so Tom and family took an Uber and I drove Beth, Marisa, and Marlena to the airport in Tyler's car, leaving around 11:00.  It was a chaotic morning, with everyone searching for that lost pair of socks, jacket, or charger.  Throw in three of four different breakfast requests and you get the idea. Anyways, everyone is home safely so that's good.

Park Way, Our Road

As I mentioned above, I drove home in the rain, some of it flooding the roads so that I had to drive through four or five inches of flooded roads in a couple of spots.  And when I got back to the lake, Evie told me to take the Pine Hill road because the creek was flooding our road. Fortunately, the rain stopped about 4:00 and the water began to recede, the creek settle down.

It was a strange house yesterday when most of the family left, quiet and no one knows quite what to do.  The boys worked some on their computers, Evie did some laundry and I went out in the yard and did a few things to keep busy. We had planned on going out to dinner but no one really wanted to so we ate leftovers, the pork chops, sausages, and steak as well as a mega salad.  That was enough for all of us.  We searched for a movie we would like and settled on an older film starring Tom Hanks called The Road To Perdition.  We liked it. It was over by 10:00 and we were all tired enough to go to bed early.
