It's 8:20 and I just returned from a forty-minute paddle to a full living room, seven of us, the rest are sleeping. Everyone is on their devices, little talk for now.  I was up at 6:20, came downstairs and my grandson Tyler was already up, eating breakfast and had made the coffee. His parents were down soon after, so there were four of us until Tyler took off to work out at the Y, like a boy possessed.

Dahlia Of The Day

Yesterday was fuller than usual as the rest of the family arrived.  I did get in a paddle before driving off at 10:00 to pick up Tom and their family at the airport.  They were flying in from Kansas City with a connecting flight to Baltimore.  They were on time so that we were on our way home by 1:00, getting back to the lake by 2:30, hungry since they had not eaten since 6:00.  Evie quickly made quesadillas with the leftover meat from the ribs which satisfied everyone's hunger.  Around 3:30, Beth arrived, having driven to the airport to pick up Rami and Mitchell, and Milena. And then we were 15!

Granny And Her Grandsons

The rest of the afternoon is a blur, of appetizers, beers, cocktails, talk of food and what we want to do this week.  Fortunately, Evie had two baked zitis in the freezer so all she had to do was put them in the oven and we had dinner whenever we wanted.  She also frosted the chocolate cake she made on Thursday.   Around 5:30, despite the clouds and cool weather, four of the brave ones, including Evie went for a swim and a shower, soaping and shampooing up in the lake, a tradition.  We didn't eat till 7:30, with 12 of us around the table, the three girls sitting at the bar.  The ziti was to die for, with hardly a serving left.  We also had a salad of course, wine, and bread to finish off dinner.

Dinner For Fifteen

We waddled into the living room and sat around talking until it was time for chocolate cake for dessert. Around 9:00, Mitch and Nick and their girlfriends left for the cottage we had rented just behind our house. We stayed up talking and listening to music until around 10:00 when the adults went up to bed, the kids who knows when they got to sleep.
