It's 7:30 and I have been up for an hour, watching the lake slowly become visible.  Earlier,  spooky headlamp lit fishermen as they trudged out towards the darkness.  Now, the early morning sky is a canvas of various colors, as I wait for the sun to rise at approximately 7:48.

Yesterday, like Saturday as well as this morning, was bitterly cold, the temperatures rising just to the mid-teens in the afternoon. Thus, the only reason we went outside was to pick up our newspaper.  It seemed like we were the only ones to hunker down because our neighbours were out, enjoying the cold, hiking the lake as well as Woodlawn.  We envied them but not enough to don our winter togs and take advantage of a sunny but cold Sunday at the lake.  We were too warm and comfy to get out there and a little cautious because of the "flu" I've had.

After a morning of reading the papers, coffee, and listening to the various political programs on Sonos, we had our big breakfast and watched Saturday Night Live which began with a hilarious mocking of Morning Joe's Mika and Joe, now a couple.  It's worth watching the first five minutes just to see this episode.  I then watched the Steelers lose to Jacksonville,  to the dismay of many local Steeler fans. Evie would occasionally pop in to see the score.  While I was watching, Evie was making the biga, the first step for making another couple of loaves of French bread.  She's letting it rise overnight, hoping that it improves the flavor of the loaves.  I cannot wait to try it today.  She also made one of our favorite cookies, Lemon Scented Ginger Cookies, a recipe by Martha Stewart.  The dough is shaped into small loaves, refrigerated, then sliced thin and baked.  The rest of the afternoon we relaxed, then had an extended wine time, with appetizers, listening to music as I had enough of football.

Dinner was Evie's onion/potato/gruyere soup with toasted bread, like a French onion soup, and leftover chicken and red potatoes, easy and tasty.  We watched CBS Sunday Morning, always eclectic and interesting, so different from most morning shows.  We ended the night with channel surfing, not ready yet to start a new series.  And I wanted to get back to my book, so I went up to bed to read early.
