A daily journal of our lives (begun in October 2010), in photos (many taken by my wife, Evie) and words, mostly from our home on Chautauqua Lake, in Western New York, where my wife Evie and I live, after my having retired from teaching English for forty-five years in Hawaii, Turkey, and Ohio. We have three children, seven grandchildren, and one great-grandson, as you will notice if you follow my blog since we often travel to visit them. ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE: ELIZABETH STROUT
Another unhappy woman's book from Strout but I liked it but not as much as OLIVE KITTERIDGE. I have read everything Strout has written she's that good. ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE is a series of loosely related stories like many of Strout's books. It might be read as a sequel to Strout's previous novel, MY NAME IS LUCY BARTON. Many of the minor characters from BARTON appear in the connected short stories. Here, Lucy's sister, Vickie, brother Pete, and high school janitor, Tommy Guptil, resurrect memories. of their lives often related to Lucy. Lucy's novel, acts as the catalyst for these memories. Strout's artistry expertly weaves these characters together.
