Overcast And Dark

7:24

8:50

A strange morning, a lack of any sun, and a grim, gray darkness characterize this morning. It might rain but probably not because the weather gods are usually wrong. It's 9:05 and I just returned from a 35-minute kayaking, paddling home in drizzle. Still, it was good to be out on the lake.

Kayak Morning

Northern Gray

Sunday was not necessarily a day of leisure for either of us because we were having friends for dinner which meant making sure everything inside and out is spiffy. The day started, however, with a nice paddle, lots of sun, and a picturesque morning. When I returned, we finished up the blog and I had my breakfast before getting busy. Evie was already working in the kitchen so I went outside and cleaned and organized both porches, sweeping and vacuuming as needed. Thank goodness the windows were clean! I then worked inside, vacuuming the downstairs while Evie put together a dish of many veggies.

By noon, Evie was out mowing the lawn and I was relaxing, reading and waiting for the Bills game to begin at 1:00. Evie took a timeout to make me eggs and potato pancakes, then finished the side yard as I enjoyed my lunch and watched the first half of the game. I saved the second half and went up stairs and read and napped briefly before coming downstairs and watching the Bills lose on a field goal with 2 seconds left in the game, a sad day for Bills fans. After the game, I finished mowing the front yard for Evie and everything looked great, yard, house, kitchen, table set.

Stormy Weather

The Lake

We both took showers as the sky darkened just before Linda and Ron arrived just after 6:00 to a brief but heavy rainfall, a half inch, lasting all of 15 minutes but torrential in some areas of Chautauqua County. We were able to sit out on the front porch and enjoy our appetizers and wine, as the day waned. They had just returned from four days with Linda's sisters in Portsmouth, New Hampshire and loved the town, lots to do and great restaurants. Dinner was great, two racks of lamb, salad, and vegetable couscous. We devoured everything so we must have been hungry. Desert was sorbet and vanilla wafers, surprisingly a big hit. All four of us grew up eating those cookies. They left about 9:30 and we cleaned up most of the kitchen before going up to bed, a busy but fun day.

Together Again
