Coyote Ugly

A Hungry Male Baltimore Oriole

8:26
It's 7:00 as I begin on a miserable fall like Monday morning.  It's overcast, windy, with occasional drizzle and 45º.  It's been this way for the past 36 hours if not longer and will continue on throughout today, perhaps through Tuesday.  It's been, clearly, a wet Spring.  It's 8:30 and I just returned from a forty-five-minute paddle, in a drizzle, gray skies, with little waterfowl, just a rack of turkey vultures.

Kayak Morning

The Haunting Of The Turkey Vultures
Yesterday was a good day to hunker down and enjoy a warm house, have a good meal or two, perhaps find a window for a walk.  And that's what we did.  After a rough paddle, we finished the blog, Evie showered, and we drove to the Chautauqua Institution for our Sunday walk.  It drizzled briefly but for the most part, the walk was fine as the yards and gardens are coming to life.  With some sunshine, it would have been a wonderful morning walk.  We walked only as far as the President's house and back to the southern gate, taking our time, seeing no other walkers.  We cut the walk short because I was anxious for breakfast, always a Sunday treat.  We walked in and Evie quickly started the bacon, I set the table, and she fried the eggs once the bacon was done.  We missed CBS Sunday morning last Sunday since we were in Chicago so it was good to get back to our routine of a big breakfast and CBS Sunday Morning.

That was it for the day which was broken up only by calls from our kids to Evie, wishing her a Happy Mother's Day.  I did get in a brief nap after breakfast, finished up my book, THE GOOD DETECTIVE and started one by Irish writer Sally Rooney called CONVERSATIONS WITH FRIENDS.  I am not sure it's my kind of novel but I am sticking with it because it has gotten great reviews.  Mid-afternoon, I pulled out a box of brownie mix from the pantry, put it on the counter, fell asleep reading and woke to the aroma of brownies baking in the oven.  What a woman, wife, and mother. And she loves to mow the grass!!!

We decided to watch another episode of BIG LITTLE LIES with a glass of wine and after finishing episode two, we took a time out so Evie could saute the Wienerschnitzel, cook the broccoli after I washed the potatoes and put them in the oven, my small gift for Mother's Day.  I had been wanting Wienerschnitzel for a few days, so dinner was perfect, the Wienerschnitzel with melted butter, applesauce, broccoli, and baked potatoes.  We devoured our dinner, watched another episode of BIG LITTLE LIES,  took time out for brownies topped with vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce, and watched another episode before going up to bed,.
