A Sunny Strangely Quiet Memorial Day Morning

We Celebrate Our Daughter Jill's Military Family

It's 6:25 and both Evie and I are up to a chilly morning, 51º with lots of sunshine and blue skies.  Many of our neighbors are up for the weekend as it's the traditional date for many to open up their cottages, put in their docks, launch their boats.  I was able to paddle for a good hour, north this time, to the end of Whitney Bay and back, on a delightfully calm, sunny morning.

Kayak Morning
Campground's Docks
Yesterday felt like a Sunday and obviously, it was.  We did not do much as we both we happy to just sit around the house or out on the dock and not worry about the garden or the house, just be in the present whatever that means. I did get in a long paddle since it was Sunday and I did not have a yoga class.  We took our time finishing up the blog and sat out on the front porch, watching the neighborhood wake up.  I was not sure we would be having a big breakfast until I smelled the bacon frying in the kitchen while I was watching the last two quarters of the Raptors/Bucks game.  It was fun to see the fans go crazy when the Raptors won, with thousands standing outside in the rain, watching the game on a big outdoor screen.

It Takes A Family
Breakfast was, as usual, tasty making us wonder why we don't have eggs, home fries, bacon and a bagel more often.  Good question.  Instead of eating in front of the boob tube and watching CBS Sunday Morning, we went crazy and sat out on our front porch as the day began to heat up.  It was a good day to enjoy the dock despite the occasional clouds, so Evie spent a good part of the afternoon enjoying being outdoors.  Before going out, she prepped our dinner of a salmon salad, roasting the salmon and washing the lettuce.  I set up the hoses for watering our garden with water from the lake, using a sump pump.  And my garage always needs straightening up or organizing, so I took a stab at the shelf in my garage with assorted junk.

Both of us were looking forward to the cocktail hour, the reward for a day spent relaxing mostly.  We had Manhattans, our favorite Cape Cod chips and an onion dip.  It was pleasant sitting on our porch and we both remarked how quiet the lake was for a Memorial Day Weekend.  Maybe the fact it was overcast sent most of the boats back to their docks.  We enjoyed our salmon salads with a bagel and watched a couple of episodes of PBS's UNFORGOTTEN, a series everyone seems to like and it's already into its fourth season. We had enough watching TV and went up to bed just after 10:00.
