Cool And A Morning Fog

Sunday Night With Jim, Our Nephew From Ohio

5:32

6:32

6:38
I was up at 5:30, to a fairly clear morning, a cloud bank hanging over Long Point.  Now, at 6:30, the fog has rolled in and soon Long Point may disappear.  It's a chilly 52º, a welcome change from the 80's late last week.

Kayaking Towards Long Point State Park

Kayak Morning
Yesterday was a windy Sunday, with a strong wind beginning as I paddled the lake but was forced in because of the wind and it did not let up for the entire day.  We had a relaxing morning on the front porch, watching the lake traffic pick up.  Around 10:30, we decided to go for a walk in the Chautauqua Institution but drove instead of by boat because of the wind.  We park outside the gate, walked in and it's free all day Sunday to enter the grounds.  We wanted to find a Blog friend's house and with the help of a resident, we were able to find it but no one was at home.  They probably, like the rest of Chautauqua, were at the amphitheater for the morning religious service.  With its often well-known minister of the week and a full choir, it has become quite a draw each Sunday, with close to 5000 people packing the seats.  We walked a couple of miles, taking our time and were gone only an hour.  We stopped at Tops on the way home an picked up some chicken thighs for dinner.

We were home 12:30 and Evie quickly made breakfast, a Turkish menemen, scrambled eggs with tomatoes and feta cheese.  While I ate and watched my show, Evie decided to cut the lawn and because of the cool weather, it was a good day to cut it.  By the end, she had probably walked close to 4 miles counting our walk at the CI.  Our nephew, Jim, was arriving around 5:30, to stay the night so we're having barbecued chicken for dinner, so Evie parboiled the chicken before heading out in the yard to enjoy the sun.  I joined her and started a new book, WHAT ALICE FORGOT and I was not sure if I would like it but I cannot put it down.

Docking It
Jim arrived around 5:30, with a couple of jars of jam and maple syrup for us. His son, one of the top under eighteen hockey goalies in the US, is playing in an All-Star Tournament in Amherst and hopes to be representing the US in Czechoslavia this summer.  He is seriously considering foregoing his senior year of high school in Cleveland and signing with a junior hockey team in Kitchener, Ontario.

Colin, a 6' 7" Goalie
He will live with a family, finish his senior year online, play hockey, and most likely be guaranteed a full four-year scholarship to a Division I College hockey program in the US whenever he chooses to attend, sounds like a good deal.

After A Swim, In The Shallows

We decided to have beers and appetizers on the dock and the wind had died down enough so we could enjoy the late afternoon. Around 7:00, Jim wanted to do some long distance swimming, a habit, so he swam down to the reeds and back with me following him in my kayak.  He was out there probably 35 for 40 minutes while Evie was inside, getting things ready for dinner.  When we got back, I barbecued the chicken, Evie made the coleslaw and noodles, and we sat outside, enjoying the evening as the sun began to set.  Jim had been texted by his kids about the big NBA trades so we watched Sports Center on TV to catch up on the happenings, enjoying Evie's lemon custard cake with raspberries as we watched.  Jim was tired from a busy day, so he went up to bed around 9:45 and we watched some TV but soon followed, the end to a busy but fun day.
