Get Out The Snow Shovels (Lake's Open)

A glow of light off to the northeast this morning at 6:15, a chilly morning of 22º and believe it or not, snow squalls last night, bringing a couple inches of snow this morning.  It feels like the first snow in December, rather than a morning in April.  It's a surprise to see the lake appear for the first time since December, gray and calm with a few wrinkles.  Time to get out the kayak!

Yesterday, for once, the weatherman was correct.  We had a wild day of wind gusts, some probably in the 60 perhaps 70 mph.  It shook the house, bent trees, knocked down branches, and in some areas, the electricity went out for a good part of the day.  It was even scary going out in the morning to yoga as signs shook, detrius blew across roads, my hat flew off and I had to run off in the parking lot to pick it up.  I cannot remember a day like this.  Yoga was a contrast, quiet and still for the most part, a good class with Jen and music from her button box.  Because of the wind, I went straight home, making sure the roads were clear of any tree branches.  We watched the wind blow the ice off towards Long Point and Bemus, so that the lake in front of our house was clear, open water.

Evie was a homebody yesterday, happy to just be safe in warm and comfortable in our house.  It was not a day to venture out, to walk or hike, for sure.  I had to drive to Jamestown for a doctor's appointment at 1:45, went the back way across the Washington Street bridge because the Main Street Bridge is closed for a few months.  On my way home, I stopped at Wegman's because it was on the way, picked up a few goodies from Evie's list as well as a couple of things we did not need.  I made it home safely and was happy to put the Outback in the garage and park the Honda so it was not under our willow tree which seems to lose branches in a heavy wind like yesterdays.

Neither one of us wanted to fuss with dinner so we relaxed with a glass of wine, listening to the wind, wondering if it would ever stop.  Dinner was the leftover pasta, cauliflower and cheese casserole and hot dogs.  It tasted good, of course, and we watched the first episode of a new series for us, OFFSPRING, another soap opera like series from Australia.  Most importantly, I found out how to turn on subtitles on my Apple TV remote so we can now easily follow a series if the accent is difficult to make out. 

Snow Squalls

Around 8:00, we walked into the kitchen to finish up the dishes and realized we were in the midst of a snow squall and our yard had turned white while we were watching TV with a couple inches of snow.  It was a shock and as you can see, Evie took a photograph of the snow whipping through our yard, bushes and trees.  We ended the night watching another episode of the new Queer Eye which was fun.
