A Day InThe Theater Of The Absurd

7:24
9:04
It's a wild morning here at the lake, the wind howling, tree limbs waving and, fortunately, we still have electricity.  The forecast suggests we could have 34-49 mph winds most of the day, with gusts up to 65 mph. I believe it.  The lake in front of our house is finally beginning to thaw, with about 40 yards of open water before the ice and it looks like the ice is being pushed towards Bemus. A couple of ducks just floated by and the muskrat is poised on the ice's edge, looking for fish. And we could have a rain/snow mix later in the day.  At the moment, it's 41º and dropping.

Water And Ice

The Return Of A Duck
"The best-laid plans of mice and men often go awry."  I could not think of a better description of our Tuesday trip to Cleveland.  We left at 9:00, hoping to shop at Trader Joe's around 11:00, browse a couple more stores until 12:30, then drive to Mentor to meet Vi, our good friend from Ohio University at the Manhattan Deli in Mentor.  All was well until we got within five miles of the Ohio border when traffic began to slow and we realized there was going to be a detour. No big deal right, just get off the road for a bit, then hop back on.  Well, two and a half hours and 18 miles later, literally crawling or completely stopped at times, we finally got back on #90.  We ended up skipping Trader Joe's, meeting Vi at 1:00 in Mentor.

With Our Good Friend, Virpi, The Good Finn
To say we were frustrated would be an understatement.  Lunch and our visit with Vi calmed us down and we adjusted our plans, knowing there was no way we were heading home the same way, taking the same detour.  So we drove to Chagrin Blvd, did a quick walk through Trader Joe's, picking up our favorite goodies and avoided the Interstate, driving RT 322 or Mayfield Road to Clevelanders, all the way to Meadville, PA.  There, we picked up # Interstate 79 to Erie, got back on #90 and were home back 6:00, a three hour drive through rain and fog.  We wanted to kiss the ground when we got home, we were so happy to be off the road.

We quickly unloaded the car, put away the goodies, a couple of cases of Two Buck Chuck, and changed into our sweats, ready to relax with a glass of wine and enjoy the early evening.  We had bought a much recommended frozen dinner from TJ's, their Mandarin chicken, so Evie heated it up, made some rice, asparagus, and salad, and we had dinner.  The chicken was decent, not something we would recommend unless you like chicken nuggets with a sweet sauce over it.  We watched another episode of HBO's BARRY.  We are not taken with it but may stick with it for one more episode. We ended the evening by finishing up the second season of OCCUPIED, with a horrific ending, setting us up for Season Three, no doubt.

What a day.
